Abortion
It is an issue that has had many groups up in arms over what is morally acceptable in society and what is considered criminal. Individuals in society believe that every life should be protected. Many people believe that the policy on abortion may give people the avenue to terminate a pregnancy if they want, or if they decide that it is too much for them to raise a child. Policies are implemented on a regular basis to ensure the limited access of safe and legal abortion. Individuals believe that the woman should be given the right to choose. Others believe that the proposal of the fetus being regarded as a person may restrict the termination of pregnancies among diverse groups (Gruhl, Comer & Rigdon, 2009). It is a topic that has elicited emotional reactions, and it is not likely to die down any time soon.
Arms control
California was the first state to ban the use or sale of some automatic weapons. The rate of crime in the state may be on the rise, however, the implementation of policies to curb the rotation of guns may well be the solution to the problem. In the wake of recent killings in the nation, resurgence in the call for imposing bans on certain weapons has resurfaced. All this is seen as a way to eliminate the possibility of the loss of many lives in different states. Arms control is a federal, state, and even local issue that needs proper legislation in order to protect majority of the citizens in the region. It is a debate that has resurfaced and will ensure the control of arms across different states to ensure the right of every citizen is upheld (Wilson & Petersilia, 2010).
Immigration
Many individuals across the world consider the United States as the land of immigrants. Issues arise as to how individuals make their way into the land of opportunities. Illegal immigration is an issue that has had many presidents face the wrath of the public with the decisions they make to curb the issue of immigration. Citizens in the country question the coming of immigrants by how they fit into the state’s economy, where they settle, and why they come. All these are factors that make Californians and their local municipalities prohibit the enforcing of policies on immigration. Previous administrations have been avoiding the topic, but it is something that has the public opinion divided (LeMay, 2007). It is time that people get the right answers to the questions they ask, and through public policy, they might have the right answers.
Terrorism
This has been a crucial topic in the United States since time immemorial. Many administrations have been blamed for not taking the issue seriously. After the attacks that rocked the nation, various emergency units were set up to ensure that there was a rapid response for any emergency that emerged. Many people are in support of the policies that came up to ensure their protection and safety. In California, a document highlighting the protocol and procedure to follow was created that also highlights the response from all levels of government (McCauley, 2012). Many more are being created to ensure the protection and security of the people.
