Quantitative Methods and Analysis:
The survey below was carried out using survey monkey, which is a free online tool for creating surveys. The following is the link to the survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QKQKVV8.I was able to send it to 20 family and friends who completed the survey. The survey was aimed at trying to determine which types of movies the respondents like and whether they prefer to go to cinema. Below are the charts derived from the data analyzed by survey monkey based on the responses received from the respondents.
What type of Movies do you like?
Chart 1: showing the type of movies preferred by the respondents.
Above is a column chart showing the types of movies liked by the respondents. 25% of the respondents who were a total of 5 preferred action movies. 45% of them, totaling 9, prefer comedies. 25%, who totaled 5, of the respondents are into drama while 40%, who totaled 8, of the respondents are into biographies. Investigative Documentaries took the remaining 25% who were 5 respondents.
Would you rather watch a movie at home or at the cinema?
Chart 2: Showing where respondents prefer to watch their movies
The above chart was meant to find out where the respondents preferred to watch their movies. 55% of the respondents who were a total of 11 respondents preferred watching the movies from home. The remaining 45% prefer watching the movies at the cinema. This group was a total of 9 of the respondents.
How Many Movie Premiers have you attended this year?
The chart following in the next page shows the frequency with which the respondents attended the premier of movies at the cinema. It shows that 25% of the respondents who total 5 don’t attend premiers. 35% who total 7 attend premiers 1-5 times. 25% who total 5 do this 5-10 times. The remaining 3 respondents, who are 15%, will attend the premiers more than 10 times.
Chart 3: Showing how many movie premiers they have attended this year
The survey shown above and the charts that are graphically representing the results of the survey can be used by media groups and or companies. The media groups can change the production of movies to target certain groups of people so as to maximize their sales. This is seen when in the example of movie categories, the media company would prefer producing a comedy compared to other categories.
The survey would also help the media companies decide on how to reach their clients better hence increasing returns. Since more people prefer watching movies at home, the providing a way they can do this and still earn from it would give the media companies the maximum returns they are hoping for.
The chart showing the frequency of the respondents attending movie premiers will obviously tell the media companies to expect low turnout at the premiers. It will also tell them to expect that the turn out will drop over time.
The general survey will eventually help the media companies re-evaluate their marketing strategies. It will also help them find better ways of finding their targeted market if they choose to produce the less popular movies. The survey in general is an eye opener of media companies in the entertainment industry. The stakeholders can now have a clear picture of how to expect their products to perform in a sample market. This may or may not influence their future decision, but it will definitely give them some food for thought.
