Chapter 1
Research is carried out when there is need to settle disputes on operation and nature of different aspects of the world. We are able to know more about our world in a disciplined way.
The expertise of an authority is limited when there is a disagreement between two authorities on the issue. When the opinion of the authority is unconvincing. When the authorities fail to answer with assurance.
Some authorities may be unsure of the questions and may give false information. One may receive aggression from them if they do not want to answer the questions. They may fail to give information due to reasons best known to them. I would consult a parent on child raising techniques. I would consult a psychologist about the impact of explicitly violent televisions on play routines of children.
Authorities that I normally consult include parents, teachers and doctors. They know as they have experience and knowledge through their career. The gender of my parent will help me relate to them more on some issues. The age of my parent is important as they have more experience in their life journey. The doctors position as a medical practitioner makes it easy to consult on medical issues as they undertake them in their carrier.
It is impossible to live without accepting the word of authorities as they have the experience and knowledge
Chapter 2
Research is carried out to acquire answers to unsolved problems or to gain knowledge of a particular issue. One may also perform a research for purposes of ruling out answers.
A research is a process. Processes are steps or series or actions undertaken to complete a task.
A normal sequence of a research process is where researchers develop a way in which they progress with the phases of research process. It is normal because a pattern develops of basic phases that undertake the phases of the research process.
The first steps of the research process include formulating the research question, selection of research design, devise and design variable measures, table setup for analysis and selecting samples. The steps provide a foundation on the problem area making it easy to progress through the other processes. Without them research is difficult or impossible.
Phase two of the research process is collection of data. The process involves two steps, collecting data and summarization and analyzing of this data.
Researchable questions are limited to certain times, conditions and places. In addition, they identify observable data that are countable, tangible and can be gathered.
Data are the facts that are generated by the research while theory are ideas that are intended to explain a position. Data are important are they represent the observations in the research, they record the events that take place. They are abstracts, measures of things at a particular time. Theories are important as they argue the relation of concepts. The research provides the evidence needed to support the theory.
The two types of research are the qualitative and quantitative research. Qualitative uses non-numerical questions where it addresses how, and why questions. Quantitative research uses formulas, numbers and statistics that make the predictions or inferences.
Research carried out to determine a special formula that predicted an individual’s cardiovascular event by using factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol methods and age. The participants in the study were only Caucasians and did not relate to the general population.
