Relationship Tensions
Autonomy VS. Connection
One of the examples of such a tension is a friend of mine. Her name is Monika and for a long time, she has been single. However, last year she found a man and from the first time, she tried to force him to propose. One of her crucial weapons was filling all of his time with her presence. That made him feel dependent. Mark claimed he lacked personal space and left her because she provided him with no autonomy.
Power VS. Empowerment
The extra power of one of the spouses creates tension, which can lead to fatal consequences. For example, my grandmother’s neighbor had to call the police because her husband’s abuse of her as he would say she had no job, while he was making money and obtaining power in the family.
Acceptance VS. Change
One of the great examples of how acceptance can influence the romantic relations is the couple of Salvador Dali and his wife Gala/ Salvador Dali. He was an extremely extraordinary artist, yet had problems socializing with other people (Descharnes, 1968). However, Gala accepted all of Salvador’s personalities and even helped him to improve his skills.
Expressions of Love
The popular singer Pink decided to propose to her husband herself. In 2005, she was the first of the two to speak freely about her feelings and express her love ("8 famous women who popped the question", 2017).
Making a Commitment
One of my siblings/friends decided to try civil marriage before the official ceremony. With time, she understood that she is capable of building harmony with her future husband, which is their common commitment.
Daas Article
I suppose Kelly was right not accepting the proposal when she was in doubt. I agree that if there is no eagerness from both of the sides, marriage is not acceptable. Therefore, I agree with Kelly’s view that the ring and the proposal itself do not matter, while the most important thing is one’s confidence in the relationship.
The Commuter Marriage
In my point of view, commuter marriages disturb the harmony of the equal relationship. In commuter marriages, both of the spouses do not share the choirs equally. For example, the wife sits at home, while the husband is making money. In fact, these relations cannot develop harmonically. Therefore, from my standpoint, in general, most of these marriages are not successful.
Discussing Sex and Intimacy
Sex and intimacy are vitally important in the context of romantic human relations. Therefore, a couple has to discuss these topics like anything else. However, they have to discuss these topics face to face in order to eliminate the borders and be completely honest.
