Admission Essay
My Self
Having been born in Saudi Arabia, I have very close ties with my home culture, and to that end I wanted to work as much as I could at home, while also learning about English and the West. To that end, I chose to dedicate myself to a challenging field that would enable me to conduct a great deal of international business, such as chemical engineering.
I majored in English at King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah City, graduating in 2008/2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering; while my GPA was at 2.33, this was due to a number of factors including my own dedication to my work outside of the university. Despite this work experience, I still wish to continue my education in the United States so that I might advance my position in my current career.
For ten years, I worked for United Agent, then worked as a maintenance manager and hardware engineer for Derby Technology International for two years after that. Upon graduation, I trained for two months at the Abdullah Hashem Equipment and Industrial Gasses Company, receiving training in safety construction and process industries risk assessment. I also worked a lot with programs such as HYSIS, ChemCad and Matlab, allowing me to become familiar with some of the latest technology in the field of chemical engineering.
For the past three years, I have been working as an Environmental Inspector for Saudi Asma Environment Solutions, working in the same position for the Saudi government in the municipality of Jeddah. I wish to maintain this position, but increase my ability to get promoted; Jeddah has been kind enough to give me a long vacation to allow me to get a Master’s degree and continue my studies.
With the help of this Master’s program, I believe I can accomplish this goal; my current skill set and experience will benefit greatly from the experience and expertise of this institution’s excellent programs and faculty.
