Random Act of Kindness
I always feel good helping other people out. Two weeks ago, I was sitting on my porch when I saw my neighbor, an old woman, carrying some heavy things to her home to her car. When I saw her struggle, I wanted to go help her, but I was worried that if I approached her with an offer to help she would say no to me because she thought I was trying to get money from her. However, I told myself that I would try and see what she said. I walked up to her and asked her if she could use my help, and she said she could. I carried all of the things she had inside her car to her house that she wanted me to take. After I finished, I asked her if she needed anything else. She said, “That’s all. Thank you so much.”
When I helped her out, it made me feel happy and peaceful. She was comfortable with me helping her out. Her expression showed how pleased she was to have assistance from me, even though we are very different people. She thanked me and started talking to me, saying, “It is really nice of you to help me.”
After seeing her reaction, I felt touched by the things she said to me. She also gave me a hug for helping her. I was amazed that doing such a small thing to help someone could make such a big difference to a person. It made me feel like I should help people more often than I do now. I am now a volunteer at school to help the elderly who cannot understand English, because I can speak another language I can translate and explain to them what they do not understand. My neighbor’s reaction to me was so heartwarming that I felt like I should thank her, because it made me feel so good. We also got to know each other better just because I helped her out. Now, every time I go out and we see each other, we smile and wave to each other. Sometimes, I go across the road to talk to her and to make sure everything is okay.
I feel I did the right thing, and believe that as a community and a nation we should help each other out more often. If we do that, we would never see homeless or poor people. I also noticed through my experience that brings people closer together, just as it brought my neighbor and me closer. If everyone would do simple things like this, it would be an amazing thing for the whole world. I do not thing there is a better thing a person can do than to help someone in need. There are many different ways to help. All it takes to help someone is to give support or even a few kind words. Helping each other bonds people together, making the world a nicer place to live. If people did more random acts of kindness, this world would be a better place than it is now.
