Reality shows have been known to tap into the deep seated cultural anxieties that usually are related to the fundamental issues of individual autonomy, privacy, security and survival. The behavioral pattern among individuals has changed due to the reality shows that they have watched. It has brought culture to its viewers and has been known to be a great insight into the human normal pattern of behavior practices. A collective mindset has greatly affected everyone who watches it more than they even realize it. The context below focuses on two-reality show. They are named as real world and Big brother. The real World reality show was aired on November 11, 1994 on MTV. ‘Big Brother’ was airing begun in 1997 and lastly, watched in August 5, 2014 on MTV. The context uses different scene at different times.
‘The Real World’ is one example of reality television show and was produced by Mary Ellis and Jonathan Murray. The show was inspired by the American families and is a series programmed. These people are teenagers and are made to live together in a major city. The series stresses much on how this person interrelates amongst themselves. Many of those who follow the program tend to adapt similar behavioral patterns.
The show has influenced a majority of people in the way they behave. During the show, characters tend to behave in an unexpected manner, or a manner that contradicts the cultural pattern of behavior; they tend to get comfortable with their complication. Reality show makes us more comfortable in the way we lose our tempers. It is also referred to as the state of humanity. It is the audience that is attracted to the scene of humiliation or mortification. It is the states where the actors depict the actions of bullying they show nudity and also, drunken antics (Huff, 2006). The cultural practices where people respect their elders have changed as a result of the cultural show. Teens tend to behave the way they feel like due to influence. It is because the other teens in the show, can behave the way they want to and hence, they tend to say that they need their freedom too.
The reality show is also similar to the big brother reality show. It is a program where you find that majority of people will create time for it or simply abandon all the other activities just to watch it. You find that in both shows, after a week each of the actors is required to account about how they spent their week. They are usually interviewed. Unlike their daily taping, these interviews provide opinions, and reflect as to why an individual behaves in the pattern they do. They are also advised to talk about their thoughts. Through this, the audience does judge the thoughts of the individuals. They tend to adapt their way of handling issues since they think is cool, and less stressful irrespective if it is a good act or not.
Sexuality and marriages have been tarnished, and people no longer act as the culture allowed them to. According to the cultural practices teen should not engage in sexual practices, and the married should always remain faithful. In the scene, you find that they fulfill their sexual desire; however, they want it in their terms. There are several examples depicted in the movie of the real world as follows. Many of them tried to maintain their long distance relationship. It was a positive act and a good influence to the audience; however, they faced so many challenges (Huff, 2006). Miami flora attempted to maintain a relationship with two men at the same time. It was a bad picture depicted by her, but to some of the audience took the practice to be cool of her. Robert cheated on his boyfriend, partner named as Paul during the time he was working in the military. The majority of the actors flirted, dated and usually had sex with other people rather than their partners back home. It was aired on July 10, 1996. It was the fifth season.
There are cases where some of the casts have developed relationships with their fellow cast mates. Jude and Pam an example of San Francisco housemate did even marry. It was aired on 8 March, 2009. The same case has occurred with Rachael and Sean in Boston. The members commenced their relationship while they newly met at the show (Anderson, 2006). They then have natured their relationship in the right manner till it has grown and led to marriage. They serve as a great example of what a relationship entails. The procedure that individual do undertake before marriage. They have taught the teens to be responsible in their dating and to have respect with they need to have a good and happy ending. They are cases where others have divorced with their families due to misbehaviors, but rather, they still depict ‘I do not care attitude’. These are the people that have brought about the bad influence in the society and have made the cultural practices to change.
The shows have also cases where some of the actors are drug addicts. Sometimes the members become intoxicated in situations of the social order during their filming. Taking of drug is a wrongful act of which the team has taken the steps of rehabilitating themselves and changing their bad habit (Anderson, 2006). An example is Sam, who entered into a treatment program for the management of drug and alcohol management. That was a great step that was helpful to the society. It was an act that discourages the teen from engaging themselves to using drugs. It is because they would not want to undergo the struggle; he is going through in an attempt of stopping the habit.
