Part 1Report introduction
The profile of the company is that it is an iron sheet manufacturing company located in the industrial area in the city. It has several branches in the town that are involved in the distribution of the iron sheets. The various departments are located at the branches due to the need to coordinate activities at a branch level. The manufacturing site has employees who work in shifts of the day and night. The history of the industry is that it has progressively shown an improvement in protection of workers. This is by providing them with the protective gears, which was not a major concern earlier.
The location of the industry is at an industrial area; hence there are corrective measures, to ensure proper dumping of waste. Work environment in the industry has been carefully maintained by the management. This to ensure each worker enjoys a clean and a peaceful environment. The collaboration of the management and the workers has made it possible to create a good environment which has promoted the performance of the industry. This has been made through consultation between the management and the workers.
Part 2Occupational health safety (OHS) and risk management systems
There are a number of the systems that are incorporated to reduce the occurrence of risks in this industry. Involvement of the senior management and their commitment is a step that helps in control of risk occurrence. They are to make the critical decisions in terms of the organizational value, priority and the future directions (Frenkel, 2005). This helps to ensure a productive and a safe workplace. Active involvement of individuals in the workplace helps to identify the risk earlier. Individuals at the working place are the source of first hand information. They deal with the machinery every day hence they have their full knowledge.
Cooperation and consultation are crucial to early identification of the risk. Mitigation strategies are well set to prevent its occurrence (Kraushar, 2008). This is done through effective communication by consultation in this industry. Provision of the appropriate information, education and training play a major role in prevention of the risks of accidents in the industry. This orients the iron workers on measures to be taken. In this case, new employees are taken through the process of handling the machines and equipment.
Hazard identification, risk assessment and the risk control measures are taken in place to reduce the likely hood of occurrence of the risk. This has a comparative advantage to the industry and mostly the workers. Finally, development of appropriate organizational health information systems and its implementation help to ensure that the workplace is safe for employees. When the workplace is secure enough, the performance of the workers is high and efficient.
System for managing a specific risk in the industry; machine breakdown
In this industry, the risk of machine breakdown has vital negative consequences. Therefore, the industry has taken measures of provision of the protective gears. In handling the machines, the manual that has the guideline is provided to each worker. In addition, this workplace is also organized in a way that each person with a specific role to play is equipped with a machine designed for that role.
Most of the machines are computerized in a way that they record progress in the course of manufacturing. They indicate the temperature level, for instance, for heating machines. The person in charge then studies the machine and gives a report. In the case of malfunction of the machine, it is reported to technicians, so as to take the control measures required.
Systems for risk identification
Risk identification system in this industry involves the process of identifying the dangerous and hazardous situations and trying to prevent their occurrence. It helps in the creation and monitoring a risk management program. The risk identification systems are consisted of the ways that assist in getting information on the intended or unintended occurrences in iron sheet manufacturing (Wilson, 1991). Some of the sources are experiential knowledge. There is the collection of information from experienced persons. Interviewing and brainstorming also assist in identifying the baseline of the risk in the project. These processes of identifying the risk are highly effective in the provision of information in controlling and managing the risk.
Observation and site walkabouts
Observation of the situation gives clear evidence of the outcome and predicts the extent of the risk. Industrial audit prevents the risk of loss of resources for instance the funds. Together with the statistical data, it gives a numerical measure of the risk. Site walkabout helps to identify the risk through observation.
Risk assessment
Risk assessment for the iron industries is comprised of the process of identifying the hazard and also analyzing the risks associated. Then, the appropriate ways to eliminate the risk are applied.
Analysis of hazards
Hazards are analyzed according to their priority on how they are mitigated (Greenberg, 1991). The priority is given to these hazards has a major effect on risks and it can cause development of other risks. The consequences are analyzed and the likelihood of the occurrence determined.
Consultative mechanism
These mechanisms are applied in getting the information from other people and materials with information concerning the risk in this iron business. They are effective in giving the guidelines to be followed in the case of similar signs of the risk.
Hazard control
After establishing the top priorities, then the next step is to decide the way to control the hazards (Tweedy, 2005). There are several control systems to be used including, elimination, engineering, administrative and personal control system. The systems are highly effective because they are the ones that are applied in taking the control measures. They help in minimizing the chances of suffering from the risk.
Training program for new employees
A new employee in the industry must be trained on the handling of the machine. This involves the safety measures that are in place. The employee is also given the manual of the machine to use during the operation in the performance of duty. The actions to be taken in the event of risk are also outlined. These are the first aid tips and tools for handling the affected person.
Part 3
The role of the supervisor
In every department of this manufacturing firm, there is a person who is in charge. They are responsible for the equipments and the performance of the department. In the case of risk identification, they are the ones to formulate the first mitigation to prevent its occurrence before the experts address it. They also handle the machines in the industries, and they are supposed to have that knowledge of fixing them. In document keeping, they are responsible for ensuring that all the documents concerning machines and workers in the workplace are maintained.
