1. I would not consider purchasing a paper from a website and submitting it as my own. There are many websites offering plagiarism free assignments (Assignment Provider). Not only would it be unethical but, as mentioned, it would show up on plagiarism checks run by the professors. Additionally, in order to learn about a subject it is imperative to study and complete the assignments. If a student does not do this, he or she will fail to learn anything, and will inevitably suffer for it in the future.
2. I do not agree with the website owner. Even if professors create unique and challenging assignments each time, students will still have access to websites with readymade essays on the subjects that they require. Furthermore, the website owner cannot be speaking truthfully as, if they were, they would be putting themselves out of business. However, as more and more educational institutions are running plagiarism checks on assignments as a matter of course (Lavelle, 2011), it will not be long before this website’s business begins to suffer.
3. In order to discourage students from using websites such as this one, I would inflict harsh punishments on anyone caught plagiarising in their assignments. Using up-to-date plagiarism software, I would run every piece of work through for a percentage of plagiarised material. If it is clear that a student has plagiarised, they will receive a fail for their assignment. Furthermore, in some cases, the student may be excluded from further study. I would ensure that all students are fully aware of what will happen before they hand in any assignments. This will give them optimum chance to think through their options and, hopefully, to write their essays themselves and without plagiarising. Many institutions are already implementing these harsher punishments (Plagiarism Today, 2008).
