Introduction
As required by the stipulations of the contract duly signed by me as the project manager at the inception of this project, I hereby present the monthly status report. The project endeavors to present an update on the tax preparation system to be used in the next tax season. The following is the status of the project for this month.
Status Report for the Month Ending 28th of February, 2013
The software developers in the team have been working tirelessly to deliver the product on time. More precisely, nine of the ten software developers in the team are on course to complete their tasks two weeks before time. This is a good sign to the project as it is an assurance that the product will be delivered in a judicious manner. It is also noteworthy that the software developers in the team have managed their workload efficiently so that everything is done in regular time. This has scrapped the need for overtime; a factor that has gone a long way in keeping to the budget provided.
It is also noteworthy that one of the team members has decided to take the early retirement package that we recently announced. To this effect, the team member will be leaving in a week’s time. However, he is very positive that he will complete the allocated workload before he leaves. In order to forestall any hiccups resulting from this, he signed a memorandum of understanding that his severance pay is dependent on delivering his part of the work prior to his vacation, failure to which he remains for the entire length of the project to finish his work. Part of the agreement was that, even in his absentia, he would coordinate the approval of the final product by the Internal Revenue Service at an additional fee. This is because he is the only one conversant with the modalities involved in getting the approval.
Important Risks facing the project
Of concern is that the coming month has a three day weekend. This could eat into the time of the project with a notable effect on the deadlines. However, the team is in consultation for contingency measure if required. Working for two of the three days has been floated as a possible course of action if need be; a matter that is subject to confirmation. Concerns have been raised about the possibility of interruptions by extreme weather conditions as this is the hurricane season in Florida, where three of the team members are located. We are constantly monitoring the situation using the early warning systems (Barkley, 2006). If need be, the three developers will be relocated appropriately.
Conclusion
It is my statement as project manager that the costs of the project are under budget and that the product will be delivered in a timely manner.
