In many cases, high schools students start questioning whether the-the college education is significant to their lives. Here is when they start asking about the purpose of college education. Since many students, can manage to generate some income after completing their high school education, many ought not to see the importance of college education. Also, when considering the rising tuition fees in many higher learning institutions, the students may be forced to end their education at high school level and start looking for a living instead of incurring higher education costs. A college education equips individuals with better life skills, opportunities, job satisfaction, and security.
Firstly, a college education gives one better career opportunities. Acquiring an education college degree paves a safe pathway for professional development. Usually, before one joins a college, many individuals do not know what their dream job. Many college students have it clear in mind that when they grow up, they want to have a good job (Pascarella and Patrick 130-197). Also, they wish for a job that will help them satisfy their secondary needs like owning a nice car, and a decent house. Thus, these combinations of gains are the ones that drive individual to consider investing their money and time to earn a college degree. It does not necessarily matter on which course you take in college, but the most important thing is to study something.
A college education gives you the opportunity to become an expert in a particular area of study. It helps individuals to grasp complex subjects, communicate well with critical personal ideas as well as to think analytically. Post high school education also, instills crucial skills like self-discipline, organization, and capability to finish given tasks within time limits. Since college earns students with a broad range of competencies, they end up in different fields that they did not learn while in school (Currie and Enrico, 1495-1532). College education brings unexpected opportunities that are not available to those who have not spared their money and time to get a higher education degree.
The modern day economy is characterized by shrinking employment options for persons who did not go beyond high school diploma. Many high schools graduates get jobs in the service industry, where there is low pay and do not get several opportunities for career development. On the other hand, College graduates have a wider range of skills that enable them to qualify for some jobs in disciplines that have better pay and have higher chances for promotions.
A person with a post-secondary degree has more job security and satisfaction. In fact, if you do not possess a college degree, it means you are not of value to your employer. This puts job with little education in higher risks of being replaced when changes are made in the organization. Educated staff are like an asset to the company, and this is the reason the company encourages employees to take study leaves which they fund. By doing this, business owners know that they are adding value since learned staff have more skills that enhance business operations thus driving the company to achieve its set goals. Managers reward employees with higher education degree to motivate them as they help the organization with new business ideas.
Research shows that in a situation of economic recession, educated employees are less likely to be affected by layoffs. The most affected people are those with have high school diplomas. Thus, college degree assures with job security as chances of suffering from long-term unemployment is minimized. College graduates enjoy their jobs as they get employment benefits, promotions, and higher incomes that lead to job satisfaction (Nora, 180-208). Moreover, college education enables one to have more liberty to undertake a career of his or her interest (Braxton, Amy, and Shederick, 214-233).
Also, college educations act as an investment for one’s future. Attending college education demands much commitment, money, and time. Getting a higher education degree assists one in attaining career goals as well as life goals. Therefore, it needs a lot of hard work and patience because it serves to prepare individuals for rewarding and challenging careers that lead to a successful life.
Higher education benefits a person as well as his or her family. As we all know, the main advantage of higher education degree is higher income. When a family has members who are employed, it tends to be financially stable. Therefore, in the case of any problem with an urgent medical case, the person who is employed can help to cater for the medical bills. Also, it benefits the family as, members can come together and start a family project that will, in turn, be beneficial to the whole family. Thus, parents who know the fruits of education, encourage their children to further their studies at the college level so as to open more opportunities that earn someone living (Barro, 12-17). Therefore, education should always be regarded as an investment since it needs commitment, support, time and money from different stakeholders.
Another significant advantage of a college education is that it helps to solve economic problems affecting the state. A nation that has many citizens with higher education is assured to perform well in developing its economy. Professionals contribute to come up with ideas that lead to the invention of new products, and technology that makes day-to-day activities accessible. Some of the inventions by scholars help a country to earn foreign revenue. The governments later use the profits gained to sparks several development projects that better people’s lives.
Also, persons who have a post-secondary degree get job security as well as job satisfaction. This means that in case employees are to be laid off those with a college degree are less likely to suffer as compared to those with high school education. Moreover, the college education helps an individual together with his or her family greatly. Individuals who have permanent jobs help their family when faced with challenges that need moral and financial support. Thus, this is the reason many parents invest heavily in the education of their children as they foresee future benefits.
