Domestic violence has been a common occurrence in the society of today. Numerous reports are being reported of gender violence every passing day. The trend is alarming and raises serious questions to what has become of our society of today. In United States, there have arisen many movements and groups against the gender violence and women and children protection watch against violence have undertaken series of research to unearth the possible causes of increased violence incidences in the social domain. what remains to be an evident root cause of violence in among most America families as exhibited by the various movements and international organization is the aspect of increased used of substance abuse and cases of infiltration of foreign cultures and behaviors from the immigrants emanating from other regions of the world (Yount & Carrera, 2006). These causes and other potential factors fueling up the incidences of social fragmentation and nonfunctional family units will be addressed in the subsequent discussion.
In essence, this paper seeks to analyze the causes of increased violence against women by their men counterparts on grounds of gender biasness and superiority perception of the male gender over the females. Increased cases of violence in the corporate world of today have also been focused in of our discussion in this paper review.
The paper analyzes incidences of gender violence or domestic violence specifically on women by men owing to the social construction and perception that has been created in the society that men are masculine and rule over the women. The analysis seeks to indentify the root cause of the over increasing cases of violence on women by their men counterparts to this day and age. The analysis takes a close look at the American population and the social behavioral traits of its residence in as far domestic violence is concerned. The analysis will also focus of the marriage dynamics and opinions of various couples towards the institution of marriage with regards to abuse and violence.
This shocking revelation has substantially demonstrated that there is a very big problem in the society of today and if the trends goes on unchecked the repercussions may be detrimental. It is evident that infiltration of the American society by with other foreign cultures has affected the social fabric and moral values uphold by the society. Some of these cultures and social gender constructions perceived by other communities of the world have slowly infiltrated into the American society hence affecting various departments of the society including the marriage institutions.
The world has become a small village; with the recent advancement in technology on the international platform. Establishment of social sites, Facebook, Twitter and other forums have brought the whole world together under such platform, increasing the amount of information and insight being shared across the world. Despite providing a platform to share insightful information, it is also a vice where values are degraded and moral ethics corrupted by individuals with polluted mindsets. Many men have become victims of social site falling for wrong advice, gender incitation and negative perspective view on matters to do with women. Its unanimity nature has fuelled cases of discrimination among women as the perpetrators are confident that they cannot be identified; taking the chance to hit on women. Women equally do the same however their cases are minimal. The internet as a whole has also been an obstacle to many marriages more so in the current age and generation. Many marriages have stumbled and fall as husbands get misguided in all the wrong sites and blogs. With such corruption of the mind and misconception, men have ended up mistreating their wives and fail to deliver the marriage obligation to their family. From the analysis of the American population, it has been evidently from the feedback from most couples that internet browsing has immobilized their husbands as they spend all their time in front of the computer. This is a third world problem that was never experienced in the yester years. Even though aspect of domestic violence was evident in the old generation, it is evident that the problems have been escalated even the more, making most unions fail to see the dawn of the day.
In essence, interference of the social values and norms by other external factors such as internet and foreign cultures have so far increased domestic violence in most families in America. Men have been portrayed as masculine and superior in all the context in the social domain, corrupting their mindsets and installing a wrong perceptive view in as far as their position in the society is concerned.
Literature review by behavioral scientist McGeorge (2010) on Domestic Violence have echoed the sentiments accrued from the analysis that, men have acquired a generalized perception as the heads and leaders in their homes and society as a whole. Whenever a woman begins to rise in career and in social life men tend to shy away and feel intimidate. This is essentially because they feel like as if they (women) are taking over their position in the society and yet most of them cannot stand being submissive a woman head (McGeorge, 2010). in the case of a family unit, men tend to be uncomfortable when their wives rise on the corporate ladder. They tend to find excuses of blocking them from getting better jobs and pay than them. The male ego and masculinity aspect comes into play in such cases and the repercussion of such conflict is physical assault (McGeorge, 2010).
Other literature reviews have demonstrated how men pick up very petty arguments that lead to abuse and mistreatment of their wives. On keen analysis, marriage experts have come to find that such men have began falling inferior to their women counterparts and so resolve to battering and physical assaults to stamp their authority; and as an action meant to send a strong message that they are still in charge despite their current social and economic status. In his assertion in the book, Support for Troubled Marriages Dawn Eden sort to demonstrate that it is a natural phenomenon for a men to feel incapacitated and uneasy when placed under women but what divers is in their reaction towards the situation. The way a man will react towards his wife is guided by various other factors as their family background, culture of the society they live in and the company they keep. Interacting with individuals who are largely egocentric and who talk ill of women tend to corrupt sound minds and instill wrong values that may end up breaking marriages (Cooper-White, 2011).
Other literature reviews such as: The Recognition of Violence against Women as a Violation of Human Rights in the United Nations System by Qureshi, Shazia (2013) has sufficiently demonstrated that domestic violence emanates from one’s social upbringing and background. Shazia demonstrated in her literature review that over 50% of children (boys) emanating from abusive relationship end up being abusive in their relationships owing to the culture that was instill in their young minds. For girls who are brought up in an non functional marriage where the father was abusive tend to develop a negative perception towards men and this proceeds to affect their marriages in future.
This case study provides a real world illustration of what happens in the society of today. Infiltration of other cultures has significantly changed the way men behave with reference to the American society as earlier mentioned. Men continue to perceive the dominance in the society despite having attained education and getting enlightened. It is evident that the rate of divorce is evidently high and continues to escalate within the American society owing to the issues already discussed in the previous reviews.
In the ancient society, most of the people were arrogant and lacked capacity to handle conflict resolution in the society however cases of domestic violence were not significantly high as compared to the recent day. This is a clear illustration of how the third world problems have had a significant negative effect in promoting the societal perception of male dominance and the submissive female. Despite their being increased incidences of male chauvinism and domestic violence, it is important to note that individual personality traits may also be a factor contributing to domestic violence cases.
On the flip side, women have also be known to contribute to incidences of domestic violence. There are women who abuse men and give them no respect including their husbands. This is very common among women who are in high positions of power or have been well established in life. Such characters have no remorse for their actions owing to the fact that they are independent and can comfortably live on their own. Hence domestic violence has been caused by many factors working coherently in the confine of the marriage institution.
