Introduction
There are different structural interventions in organizational development to help enhance organizational efficiency. Structural interventions are useful to the organization because they determine the size and quality of the labor force, machinery and administration.
This intervention method is important to organizations because it helps cut down on the exploitation of resources. Downsizing could be in the form of retrenching some employees or freezing employment to reduce on the labor force. The company can also benefit from downsizing in terms of the amount of resources and capita. The company can streamline its production line to reduce on the less marketable products. Downsizing helps reduce wastage of resources.
Work design
This structural intervention method helps improve the organization in two ways. Employees get assigned responsibilities that they can comfortably fulfill. It also enables the organization develop responsibilities for every employee so that no employee is overworked while others are free. Work design involves developing a job description that enhances organizational efficiency in terms of labor and service delivery.
Reengineering
This intervention method involves making changes to improve an existing organizational structure. It is done to increase the efficiency of the organization’s structural setup. Reengineering is a cheap structural intervention method that ensures the organization improves the organization’s productivity.
Employee involvement
The involvement of employee is an intervention method that enhances participation among stakeholders in the organization. Involving employees in organizational affairs changes the management structure to allow employees feel appreciated. This will increase their morale and their contribution will increase. Changing the organization from the centralized system of management and involving employees in a decentralized system helps increase their productivity.
Conclusion
Structural intervention methods are effective because they change the organization’s set up to suit its strategies. This would improve the productivity of the company. The most effective structural intervention methods are downsizing, reengineering, work design and employee involvement.
