Cloning could be the answer to the pain and suffering of many people around the globe. Human cloning is the asexual reproduction or replication of a human being at any stage of development. It can also be defined as the formation of an identical genetic copy of a human being. Cloning itself is not new as it dates back to the 1970s, where frogs and toads were experimented on. It is principally divided into two types, that is, reproductive cloning and therapeutic cloning. Reproductive cloning is whereby there is a creation of a child, whereas therapeutic cloning is the creation of stem cells that are used to replace damaged tissues. The acceptable one is therapeutic cloning because it is said to improve the quality of life. Human cloning has raised a great ethical debate, and like any other contentious subject, it faces a great number of support and opposition depending on human perception. Human cloning has a number of pros and cons, which are essentially based on one deciding whether to criticize it as ethically and morally wrong or right. Human cloning is a right procedure and it could be an important part of human life that should be studied more ,as it can be used to save many lives. Therefore, it should not be banned because of its positive impacts on human beings.
One of the reasons in support of human cloning is from a medical point of view: it improves human health condition. Human cloning is very valuable in surgical treatments and procedures. Through cloning, organs with cancerous cells are replaced preventing the spread of cancer in the body. With human cloning, doctors are able to repair and replace damaged tissues, nerves and organs by cloning them with new ones. Kidney and liver failure can also be treated through cloning liver for liver transplants and kidneys for kidney transplants. In addition, through this process, people will be able to recover faster from traumatic injuries. Their own cells can be used to help in the recovering process, thanks to the human cloning technology.
Likewise, through human cloning, heart attacks can be reversed. This can be done by cloning healthy heart cells and injecting them into the parts of the heart that is destroyed. Since this is a number one killer disease, especially in the United States, with human cloning, the number of deaths caused by heart attack will be at reduced levels. Therefore, this procedure gives hope to patients who require organ transplants, and it should be advanced instead of being banned.
Human cloning is proper since it improves future generations by eliminating undesirable traits in individuals. There are several undesirable and unwanted human traits that can be genetically eliminated through this process. Therefore, with human cloning, future generations can be saved from these undesirable traits because, with this process, new breeds are produced. Moreover, it will help in eliminating defective genes. An average person is said to carry at least eight defective genes. With the defective genes, an individual may become sick more often instead of remaining healthy as it is supposed to be. Therefore, with the human cloning procedure, these defective genes may be eliminated and people will no longer suffer because of them.
Apart from eliminating undesirable traits in individuals, human cloning can be used to find out genes that cause diseases. Through this procedure, genes that cause diseases can be discovered through genetic screening. If these genes are discovered, early gene therapy can be administered to this individual and this will help him/her from suffering from genetic diseases in the future. Moreover, it will help in preventing the passing down of these genes to their off springs since they will be treated.
In addition to improving future generations, human cloning provides a permanent cure for a number of conditions, which are said to be passed from one generation to the other. There are genetic conditions, which are transferred from one person to another, from generation, to generation. The risk of passing down genetic conditions from parents to their off springs can be permanently eliminated through the human cloning process. Research shows that, if further study is done on human cloning, it can help to permanently cure the Parkinson’s disease, spinal muscular atrophy, and Alzheimer. With the help of new techniques being put in place, dealing with these genetic disorders will be very easy, just like there is an effective method of removing cancerous cells from the body. Apart from the above named conditions, human cloning can be used to prevent Down syndrome, Tay-Sachs disease and diabetes if not banned. Therefore, human cloning is a good procedure that can help in stopping the spread of diseases from parents to offsprings, thus sparing the future generations from genetic diseases. With this advancement in medicine, the spread of genetic diseases will be a thing of the past.
Additionally, through human cloning aging can be reversed and infertility rates decreased. Cloning helps reverse aging effects (Smith 56). Additionally, this process is capable of offering childless couples a golden chance to have children of their own. Infertility is a very serious issue that is facing many couples around the world today. However, cloning is one of the available solutions for this issue. Through the human cloning process, these infertile couples will be able to have children without undergoing painful operations, which at the end of the day fail. Most couples without children, consider cloning as the best way to have their own children since the other procedures fail, yet they spend a lot of money on them. These couples should not be denied a chance to have children by banning human cloning, yet it is possible.
Numerous groups argue against human cloning terming it as an unethical and immoral procedure. Furthermore some religious groups term it as a dishonor to God and human life and unnatural. The main purpose of human cloning is to produce stem cells that can help to replace damaged ones and not to produce human clones. Nonetheless, arguments against human cloning are always logically countered, and challenged. With human cloning, a number of diseases can be treated and future generations saved from genetic disorders. This fact garners support for cloning as an appropriate procedure because, the benefits of this process out numbers the cons.
Cloning should not be completely banned because of its positive benefits to human beings; however, it should be restricted on how it is carried out, and who is involved in the process. This is because with human cloning, there is a potential development in many areas of technology and treatments. This process represents the world of technology and as the world is moving fast with technology, this process should be embraced. Human cloning can save numerous lives, and therefore, it should be carefully considered before it is banned since banning it will rob human beings the possible advantages associated with the human cloning procedure.
In conclusion, in spite of the responses from different groups, research on human cloning should continue, as it is one of the ways of positively embracing technology. Even though moral and ethical issues will still arise about the procedure, everyone needs to take a stand as to whether it is right or wrong. Human cloning is an incredible medical breakthrough that should be accepted worldwide. Additionally, it is a life saving procedure, and therefore those against it should reconsider their stand. Human cloning will enable infertile, and homosexual couples have a chance of having children, eliminate defective genes, and create stem cells to treat medical tragedies and injuries.
The paper concludes that human cloning is right and further research should be encouraged on the issue since it is a good way to save and improve lives. No matter what we say or do, future studies on human cloning will continue, as more and more ethical and moral issues arise. Who knows, it will one day turn out to be the best procedure embraced by everyone to cure genetic disorders and to help infertile couples have their own children. If a couple is infertile, why should they not be allowed to produce clones of themselves? If a couple has lost a child, why should they not be allowed to replace that child with a clone if that is possible? Human cloning is a great contribution to science, which is beneficial to everyone. According to Smith, an enhanced future can be realized by promoting human cloning.
