In an article, “Video Game Industry Add Billions to US Economy”, published on the online Huffingtonpost, the author, Rich Tayler focuses on how video game technology has contributed significantly to the development of the US Economy. The author indicates how compensation for workers in the US Video game industry has continued to rise since 2012. Additionally, he describes how there has been significant expansion of job market within the video game industry, not only in the US but also in other parts of the world (www.huffingtonpost.com). Taylor also asserts that US video game industry has outperformed by almost four times. On the other hand, the article indicates that publishers and game developers have expanded while other industries in the market have indicated contraction.
In the course, we covered economics of video games where it was indicated that video games generates approximately $20 billion on an annual basis more that Television, Music and the Film Industries when combined. Personally, I believe that this article basically places emphasis on this information by indicating the specific positive economic impacts of video games in the United States and other parts of the world.
Additionally, this article is an important source of information owing to the fact that it enhances our understanding on the contribution of video games in the provision of job opportunities and expansion of job markets. Video game is an important aspect of technology, through this information; one can identify how technology plays a positive role in economic development. Taking this factor into consideration, this information is crucial to the understanding of the economics of video games; that is, how video games facilitate or contribute to economic development.
