Part 3.
Since the end of the WWII, the United States has taken a leading role in the provision of the world leadership as the ultimate policeman of the world. As noted by Mosley (2012) some leaders in the world have planted dictatorship regimes that have no regard to human rights. Also, some of these states have been fueling ethnic wars or even causing tension with the neighboring countries. Since assuming leadership as the world leader, the US has been the voice of the oppressed states in the world through its foreign policies that advocates for a peaceful world that respects the will of the people. The United States has been able to form alliances and the signing of various treaties to guarantee the safety of the world and the containing the spread of communism.
In 2010, the US provided financial and technical aid to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISON) to help in fighting AL-Shabab, the Islamic militia group. For almost two decades, AL-Shabab had caused instability in the war tone state of Somalia since the overthrowing of the Siad Barre regime in the early 1990s.Besides, the terror group had become an international security threat and the US provided the support so as to help in fighting international piracy. The US through the use of the SEAL naval army launched a series of missiles that saw the destruction of the AL-Shabab' training grounds. During the operation, Mukhtar Abu Zubay, a militia leader who planned the bombing of the US embassy in Nairobi in 2008 was killed. The US responded to the security threat that is caused by Al-Shabab in the Horn of Africa as part of its commitment to enhancing peace in the world through its foreign policy (Berkin et al., 2013).
As noted by Mosley (2012), the US though through the Aid of the SEAL naval army orchestrated a secret attack that saw the Killing of Osama Bin Laden, the leader of Al-Qaeda terror group. The capturing and the Killing of Osmam Bin Laden was a highly guarded secret by the US government since the American authorities believed that Pakistan was protecting Osama. Despite the fact that Tehran termed the activities of the US as an invasion of their territory, the whole world including the NATO and the UN lauded the efforts of the US in helping to bring to an end international terrorism.
The United States through its policy of containment managed to stop the spread of communism in the world. After the WWII, the US and the USSR engaged in the cold war with the two antagonists seeking to take the world leadership. The USSR had propagated its ideologies in China, Eastern Europe and some African states. The USSR was opposed to democracy and the capitalistic ideologies that were being propagated by the US. According to Mosley (2012) the US played a critical role in the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.By the end of the cold war, the United States used its influences the world leader to provide financial aid to and citizenship to anti-communism people in Afghanistan and Angola who were fleeing from persecution. Besides, the Used its power as the policeman of the world to help in bringing to an end dictatorship regimes like that of Saddam Hussein through military action in 2006.Also, the US took an initiative of establishing a military base in Turkey in 2006 so as to help in combating international terrorism.
The culture of Consumerism after the end of the world wars enhanced the development of the US industries which in turn spurred the development of the economy. The US encouraged its citizens to consume locally manufactured goods a fact that lead to the expansion of the local market. The need to transport ammunition in Europe during the world wars saw the development of an efficient rail and seas transport. This development gave the US an opportunity to connect with the rest of the world a fact that was the expansion of the US markets abroad (Berkin et al., 2013).
As noted by Mosley (2012) the US has used its position as the world police to influence various international policies. For example, the formation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration has been in the forefront of fighting drug trafficking in the world. The two US agencies have been working with other security agencies like the Scotland Yard in investigating and arresting of the drug loads in various parts of the world. The US has also used these security agencies to spy on the nuclear activities sin Northern Koreas, which is believed to be a threat to the world security (Berkin et al., 2013).
The cold war saw the establishment of alliances whereby factions that were aligned to the US capitalism formed the Western alliance that included the UK and France while the Eastern Block led by the USSR comprised of countries like Ukraine and Estonia.
The formation of the North Atlantic Treaty organization is another world alliance that confirmed the place of US as the world leader. The US entered into the alliance so as to protect the member states from military invasions by the Soviet Union.
The enactment of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty in 1994 was championed by the US so as to enable countries to make their weapons. This strategy was meant to prevent the occurrence of the cold war in future. The US spearheaded the signing of the treaty thus making it the world police on matters of security.
The increasing influence of the USSR and the spread of communism enhanced the establishment of the policy of containment policy to counter the influence of the USSR.AL-Shabab militia was a threat to international trade especially in the shipping industry. The US provided military and financial Aid to AMISON so as to safeguard international waters and enhance international trade. The 9/11 attack prompted the US to pursue Osama Bin Laden who is believed to mastermind the attack. Furthermore, the START treaty of 1994 was stimulated by the increasing threat of nuclear weapons and the tasting of the long range missiles by the Russia and North Korea.
Conclusion
After the WWII, many countries in the world positioned themselves to the two global leadership by then, The USSR and the US. However, the United States through the help of its enormous economy and foreign policies has seen it remain the ultimate global leader in enhancing international peace and economic stability.
