Trade management is done by trade managers. There are different types of trade managers who include; retail trade managers, wholesale trade managers, and international trade managers among other managers. Most business associations create career paths in trade management in order to align the career paths of individuals with that of the business. It is for this reason that a business entity or an organization may come up with various levels of trade managers. Business entities have trade managers, assistant trade managers and senior trade managers among other levels. This is to cater for career progression needs of individuals working for a business.
The training for trade managers vary based on the type of management. International trade managers require more training in international business. The dynamics of international business require that trade managers be trained. However, less training is required for retail and wholesale trade managers.
A trade manager is involved in location, selection and the procurement of products on behalf of the business. The trading manager is also involved in the formulation and implementation of strategies to be used in marketing.
Chef
A chef is a professional having skills in the preparation of various foods. A chef is different from a cook. However, people assume that a cook and a chef are one and the same because they are involved in the kitchen. A chef has a wider role than that of a cook. A chef has proficiency in many aspects of food preparation. The work of a chef involves working quickly and handling various things at the same time.
A chef works involves preparing food, supervising food preparation, supervising and directing the cooking of food in the kitchen. A chef has a duty of pricing of menus, receiving and acting on complaints from customers and recruitment of staff. The staffs recruited are mostly cooks. The chef, therefore, performs management duties a part from cooking duties.
The training of a chef may take various forms. A chef can either be trained through apprenticeship or through formal training. As an apprentice, the chef may start as a line cook in the kitchen and with experience get to higher levels in the career. The trainee progresses to be become a chef.
Education is not a mandatory requirement in becoming a chef. Experience is more important in this career. However, most chefs opt to go for apprenticeships after obtaining post secondary training. The person who starts at the bottom of the career is referred to as the commis chef. The work of the commis chef is to assist in the kitchen. The commis chef become a trainee may only do light activities in the kitchen.
The chef can also obtain formal training through attending universities, colleges or institutions offering culinary courses. The training involves hands on training on the business of becoming a chef.
Chefs are also of different levels. This means that chefs can progress in their careers. They can rise from lower levels to higher levels. At the top there could be an executive chef, and other levels such as chef de parte. However, a business can chose to have the levels it needs within the business. The work of the chef varies based on the rank. For example, the head chef is in charge of all the things happening in the kitchen and even outside.
There are other categories of chefs such as commis chefs, sauce chefs, pastry chefs who deal with desserts and saucer chefs. The work of a chef is not all about cooking as it has been presumed by most people.
