The capital punishment has become a basis for serious conflict in the modern world because it does not provide freedom to experience grace of God to the criminals. The criminals are humans at a fundamental, and therefore, they have to be given the opportunity to heal their spirits. The supporters of the capital punishment argue that murderers must pay with their lives for the crimes that they have committed. The old testament of Bible wants the justice system to prevail in the world that can take an eye for an eye approach. The latest Biblical testament works in order to promote forgiveness in the world. The modern judicial system replaced death sentence with life imprisonment in the severe cases. The prisons are becoming places where people have been known to find peace, and therefore, they transform into good individuals. In the light of previous discussion, the death plenty defies basic human right to learn and evolve into better human being. Multiple wrongful convictions that resulted in the deaths of innocent people by the hand of capital punishment, and recently, modern DNA testing ability have assisted more than enough people to get off from the death row to prove that wrongful convictions and executions can occur.
The death plenty works by killing people, but it does not provide room for improvement in the society. The criminals lose faith in themselves, and they do not try to improve as human beings. The prison should keep murderers alive in order to help others in realizing the fact that they have the chance to better themselves. In this way, they will trust the system as well, and might make a serious effort to become normal members of the society. The associated cost of death penalty is significant because it reacts to brutality with cruelty, and therefore, criminals see no reason to invest in their personal growth. The military and federal government courts reserve the authority to issue the death sentence. However, thirty-seven states in America including New York do not permit capital punishment because they believe it violates basic constitutional rights of the criminals.
I am interested in the topic of capital punishment because I consider it as a brutal form of punishment that does not give people another chance to correct their lives. The research performed by Jacobs, (1980) provided the basis for my work because it discussed fight for protecting human rights of the prisoners in detail. Furthermore, it developed argument in the support of letting the prisoners to have the chance to complete their remedial process. The humans deserve second chances, and the prisoners on death row will never have the opportunity to turnaround their lives. The cited researcher wanted to give the prisoners the kindle of hope when there is darkness of depression all around.
The video of Saddam Hussein’s hanging is inhumane, and it represents the very reason, I do not want capital punishment to prevail in the future. Additionally, I will develop slides in order to put more life into my project. The opening slides will contain definition of capital punishment, and its contextual application. The opening slides will provide history of the punishment as well, and I will cite work of Allen, (2010) in this regard. Then, I will present my case against the punishment, and I will highlight the potential disadvantages of the capital punishment as well. I will cite Braithwate, (1999) in the final section of my project where I intend to discuss alternative educational programs that will help the prisoners in finding true meaning of life, and it might convert criminals into good human beings.
