Business
Many universities and other higher learning institutions in developing towns and urban areas are a fertile ground for starting a restaurant business. Most of these institutions only have mess halls despite the fact that they have populations that are potential customers for a restaurant business. My ideal business would be a restaurant in one of these institutions in the country. The restaurant would be a low-cost one considering the purchasing power of most of the potential customers who are students.
The restaurant will sell different foods and drinks for breakfast, lunch, and supper that will be served on the tables. The restaurant would also sell snacks such as chips, hamburger, and pizza. Most eating outlets in universities sell food through the counter where customers get their food from the counter after paying. Serving customers on the table and having them pay after taking their meals would, therefore, look attractive to most students who want to eat in a well-organized and properly decorated restaurant. The restaurant would be ideal for those who want to go on dates as it will give them a cheaper option that does not involve travelling yet the services offered would be top class.
Having such a restaurant in a university provides a readily available market of not less than 5,000 customers in a day considering that most universities have populations of up to 20,000 students and staff. That would provide an ample opportunity for the business to grow faster, break even, and start making profits. Potential threats to this business would be cases where students become unruly and break into the restaurant or decline to pay. Such situations are, however, likely to be very limited.
