Example Of Role Conflict And Role Strain Essay

Undeniably, role conflict is among the major problems facing people in the current world. People tend to take up roles that are not suited for them for different reasons. They end up role straining; hence bring about confusions in the entire role performance. A similar situation happened to me some time back when I was doing my internship at a certain public relations firm. According to my curriculum vitae, I am fluent in both English and French. However, the truth is that I had only taken French classes during my elementary years in my fifth grade. I barely remembered the basics in French.
During of our major conferences with a French firm, I was required to attend because my boss had confidence that I was a fluent French speaker. When I got to the conference, I had a hard time putting together what was being discussed. When it was my turn to say something, I used all the French words that I could remember. People would look at me and turn to each other to ensure that they heard what I was saying correctly. However, according to their facial reactions, they could not understand a thing I was saying but no one asked me any question. I believe they understood my situation.
It was a very embarrassing situation for me, which led me to removing French as one of the languages I know from my curriculum vitae. The experience pushed me towards joining Languages College. Eventually, I took French classes and I can now confidently include French as one of the languages I know and take it to any organization without any doubts.
