The importance of communication becomes magnified in romantic relationships because these kinds of relationships require trust and cooperation. When the partners engage themselves in frequent and effective communication, the understanding is increased. The frequent communication between two partners also helps in avoiding conflicts (Ito, et al., 2013).

The communication technology has a profound impact on the social life of every individual. The technology has affected family relationships as well as romantic relationships. The focus of this paper is on the impact of technology on romantic relationships. The advanced communication technology has largely changed the way people form relationships. The advent of social media has a significant impact on the relationship patterns. The modern generation relies on the new media for the formation of relationships as well as for the exchange of information. The young generation is involved in developing and using new media for romantic relationships. The use of advanced media by teenagers is perceived to be insecure by adults. The modern generation has also started to rely on the advanced media for meeting a new partner, flirting, and other matters (Ito, et al., 2013).
A large number of media attentions have been devoted to the idea of communication in relationships. The communication methods used by men are very different from those of women. As compared to men, women are more sensitive to communication. Communication plays a vital role in information exchange. It allows individuals to exchange information in the form of ideas, desires, and feelings. The incomplete information can create an information gap between the partners.
In the modern world, the new media has been utilized for the purpose of romantic relationships as well. The norms of romantic relationships have become less formal than they were before. In the current century, the importance of families has been declined in terms of the financial dependence of children on parents. Previously, parents and elders of a family were involved in the courtships and relationships of youngsters. Dating has now become a central theme of the contemporary American society. The use of social media has been increased by youngsters in order to find partners. The social media has provided a broad sphere to the youth where they can freely exchange ideas (Wood, 2009).
There are three significant methods used by the young generation for romantic relationships. These methods include instant messaging, mobile phone, and social networking. The mobile phone has provided young generation with new ways of forming relationships. The development of new channels of communication has resulted in resulted in reducing the intimacy of romantic relationships (Ito, et al., 2013). Mobile phones have allowed teenagers to maintain private communication channels. The mobile phone has also allowed teenagers to make and maintain continual contact with their partners. The social networking websites have and instant messaging have also allowed teenagers to maintain free contact through visual representations and texts.
Technology has also allowed teenagers to reach beyond traditional boundaries. The advanced media helps teenagers to maintain romantic relationships without any sort of approval from the elders (Wood, 2009).
Interpersonal communication is significant for romantic relationships. The ways used by both partners for communication determine the future of relationships. The communication between both partners is largely associated with their communication. The communication also develops perceptions in the mind of each partner. The patterns of communication and interaction determine whether communication grows or ends. Communication does not only affect relationships but also defines them (Ito, et al., 2013).
The research on the importance of communication in relationships illustrates that interpersonal communication is significant for intimate and romantic relationships. When people form relationships, they are required to communicate with each other’s in order to share information (Ito, et al., 2013). The communication between partners does not stop once a relationship is established. The studies on communication and romantic relationships have focused on the behavior of both partners. The communication patterns between partners influence their cognitive characteristics. Since romantic relationships are dynamic, the cognitive characteristics also change with changes in the relationship.
In the modern society, a large number of people are using the Internet and other advanced methods of communication in order to communicate with each other. The Internet and the mobile phone are used by a large number of people for communication with their intimate partners. Although the old methods of finding a partner and communicating are still strong, the social networking websites and advanced methods of communication have largely facilitated intimate and romantic relationships (Ito, et al., 2013). Once teenagers find their partner, they start developing certain expectations. The use of the media plays a vital role in increasing those expectations. Teenagers expect commitment and regular contact from their partners. The social media and text messaging have allowed teenagers to maintain and develop relationships, which would be otherwise difficult. The increased communication between both partners provides new ventures for couples to share information with each other. The new media has encouraged individuals to exchange much information with each other. The Internet and mobile phones have also provided the facility of tracking each other freely.

Communication plays a significant role in romantic relationships. In order to ensure long-term relationships, it is important for partners to engage in frequent communication. It has long been known as a fact that men and women find it difficult to communicate. Traditionally, males have been blamed for secrecy and reticence. Male do not know how to talk, they do not know how to do it. Female is the opposite of it and it is true, they are too chatty, too emotional and distracted. The researchers came to the surprising conclusion that the times have changed, and the traditional opposition of Mars and Venus ends, because of the emergence of mobile phones.
