At the beginning of the quarter, I lacked the self-believe that I could write something sensible. This resulted from lack of fluency and improper use of vocabularies. I lacked the ability to come up with ideas and organize them in an effective manner. This made my work lack details, hard to understand, and also incomplete. However, over the quarter, I have taken the time to practice by reading and writing different articles. This has built on my confidence and ability to organize my work. I have also been receiving positive feedback from peers and my tutor who has also recommended my improvement. To build on this confidence, I intend to continue reading more books and articles, than I previously did, and continue practicing writing on different genres.
Before this course, I disliked writing. This was as a result of my self-disbelieve in what I wrote. This made me hate writing. However, as a result of this course, I have managed to acquire some confidence in my writing, acquired grammar management and organizational skills. I have realized my weaknesses and the areas that I need to work and improve. With the knowledge acquired from the course, my attitude towards writing has changed for the better. Every day I realize that I have a potential in writing, and this makes me like what I write even before I present it to my tutor and friends.
My improvement in composition skills can be credited to practice, peer review, working on comments from my instructors, and grammar exercises. Their reviews on my work have assisted in realizing my areas of weakness, creation of ideas and how these ideas can be organized. To complement this support were comments from my instructor, and subsequent revisions in consideration to these comments. The review of these comments allowed me to build on my grammar, composition styles, and how to organize my work. The revisions also created a platform for my writing practice where I applied the knowledge in different genres, which allowed me, realize my writing standards. Regular practices have also enabled me to improve on my grammar as my capability to use different vocabularies, articles, and sentence structures have improved.
On a personal assessment, I feel that I still need to improve on my ability to develop ideas in extra detail. I feel that whenever I have an idea, I lack the ability to develop or break it down so that I provide a detailed report. I plan to improve on this weakness by continuing to practice and adhering to what my instructor advises. I also intend to write about different topics more than once and review the detail of a topic every time I write it. I believe this will boost my content and focus, and build on my development of topic detail. I also plan to improve on my topic choice, and try to be specific on my areas of reading and writing.
The most outstanding characteristic of my work is coherence. Most of what I write makes sense, is logically organized and flows smoothly. My second point of strength is on unity whereby most of my writings relate to the initial idea. I am also creative and can develop different ideas. I also maintain my focus by ensuring that each paragraph in my writing has a topic sentence, which builds the central idea behind a paragraph.
