When writing an essay for a grade, I typically make a better effort just because I know what’s the final goal is. I will try my best to use diverse grammatical structures, figures of speech, idioms in order to make my essay stand out among the papers of my classmates. In this case I would also devote more time for revision and completion of couple drafts just to make sure that I have done all the possible while completing the assignment.
When writing a letter or e-mail to my friend, I usually try to use the vocabulary that we use the most often. I try my best to make the letter personal. I am sure that my friend will appreciate the effort and also, he or she might reread the letter twice just because I have tried to fit in his or her expectations and personalize it as much as possible. However, in this case I would not mind if in any case I am going to make spelling or grammatical mistake. My friend will understand me regardless and he or she is not here to evaluate my writing skills in English.
When writing an article for a broader audience, I try to keep my own style. However, I try to make my article understandable to every reader. As an author, I try to guess who will possibly read my article in the future and what is the main purpose and message that I try to send to my readers. This article will not be the same as an essay for a grade or a letter to a friend. It will have a different style and context.
