Problem Solving
Problem Solving
As a part-time student, I would like to point out that it is really challenging to fully comply with the tight daily schedules. Since I joined college, I have found it extremely difficult to cope with the demanding engagements I encounter on my day to day basis. Although I have a lot of things to do, I have found out that I am not a good time manager. Personally, I have observed that I can not undertake all my activities in a timely manner. Even if it is not easy to effectively balance lessons, job, family, club, discussion groups and games, it is true that time management is my main challenge.
Worse still, I always complete my assignments after the provided schedule or totally fail to submit them at all (Altshuller, G., 2004). The tendency of blaming others is not justified since most of my colleagues occupy front seats in the lecture rooms and submit their neatly done assignments long before the expiry of the dead line. If it were true, then my colleagues would as well lodge the same complaints. On the other hand, I would too strictly adhere to my schedule and not leave any pending activity.
Since I am part of this problem, I would like to be the sole solution. The truth is that I am solely responsible for it. Therefore, I would like to come up with remedial measures to ultimately resolve it. First, I would like to suggest the use of time table. As a dedicated student, I believe thisis a good idea that will enable me to deal with this problem. The most fundamental to do is to draw a flexible time schedule to cater for all my daily activities. If each activity is allocated their own time, I will be able to do all of them without any omission. This will enable me to do all of them without leaving anything undone.
The other important idea to do is to be principled in my decisions. After a thorough scrutiny, I came to realize that I am a workaholic. I am prone to manipulation by my peers. Whenever any of my friends come to my room, they can easily persuade me to leave whatever I am doing to join them in their activities. Unfortunately, this can even happen when I am undertaking my personal studies in my room.
However, in order to deal with this problem, I should learn to be organized (Beckmann, J. F. & Guthke, J., 2005). Whenever I have made a decision to do a certain activity, I should not give in to pressure from anyone. Instead, I should be smart and obedient to my schedule. I should not tolerate any unnecessary inconvenience from anyone else. Otherwise, I will continue wasting much time which would instead be constructively utilized.
The other important idea is to consider seeking for guidance and counseling. As already highlighted, it is very challenging to survive in this institution. One of the most recommended ways to deal with such a problem is to collaborate with the office of student counselor. This is a professional who is charged with the responsibility of advising the learners to boldly and intelligently handle the diverse challenges that confront them in the course of their studies. They have important skills to help students to cope up with the environmental conditions in such an institution. Hence, if I am determined to solve my problem, I would seek appointment with this office and explain to him all my problems. If I share it with him, I will be relieved and motivated to adopt a new lifestyle geared towards accomplishing my educational ambitions.
Based on the above alternatives, I would like to say that I can choose the use of time table and guidance and counseling as the most applicable ideas. According to me, they are the most appropriate solution to my problem. Although I am a hard working student, it is obvious that I can not realize any success if I do not work smarter. Working smarter mainly entails proper organization and good time management. Indeed, time is a very precious resource which should not be wasted. With this in mind, I will have to rethink, sit down and make appropriate decisions. I will have to create time to look at my daily programs and draft a flexible time schedule to accommodate all of them. After settling on this decision, I will have to accept to be disciplined and loyal to it (Altshuller, G., 2004). However, I will only be in a position of benefiting from this if I seek for guidance and counseling services from the student counselor. As an expert, the counselor will listen to me, analyze my problem then offer me the necessary solution.
