Artist: Florence vs. the Machine
1. I really like how the music makes you feel exactly what the artist and the lyrics are trying to convey. There is a sense of liberation as she “shakes the devil off her back”, but there is also a sense of urgency and desperation. The quick tempo joins the emotions perfectly. I especially like the line, “I’m ready to suffer, and I’m ready to hope” It really underscores the mixed feelings the artist is trying to convey.
2. I think we have all had one time or another when we had the same feeling that is being expressed by the song- being ready to move on, and pushing yourself to move on forcibly, even though you keep going over your regrets and trying to figure out how you ended up in the position that you have to shake off.
3. In my culture, I think it is often encouraged to keep emotions held back. This song encourages a personal reflection, picking yourself up, and being brave for the future. These are popular values in my culture. While the emotions may be strong within, the singer puts on a brave face for the outside world and handles the tumult within.
4. Hello classmate,
I just came across this song awhile back, and I think that you would really enjoy it. It has a blend of emotions that really work, and the lyrics are very powerful. It really makes you identify with the artist on a personal level. You should check it out, I really like it. It’s a very powerful song.
Thanks,
