Example Of Spear Fishing: Steps Into Getting The Fish From The Water Essay

My speech was about spear fishing. I talked about how one gets ready for the activity, stalks the prey and in the end gets to achieve the objective of the activity by spearing the fish. I could feel that I had achieved the objective of the whole speech since after giving the speech my fellow students clapped. Also, in the course of the speech, the silence in the classroom meant that the students were attentive which makes me conclude that they received the message.
The introduction cannot be said to have attracted the attention of the students. There should have been some mummers with the fellow students trying to make guesses of what could be wrong making me wet. There should also have been some sighs of relief upon hearing that I was with some known company in the dark wet conditions. The thesis statement was clear as it gave a clear statement of what the speech was to cover. I established credibility by stating that I had many years of experience in spear fishing, thereby creating confidence in my peers that I was talking of an activity to which I was accustomed. I included no preview in my introduction.
The way the students clapped was a clear indicator that the speech had had some impact on the other students. If it had not, the clapping would have been less and died fast, which was not the case. This is the sole indicator that my speech had an impact on the audience. I was totally comfortable during the speech. The video is correct since it shows what was happening. It shows that whatever I was feeling inside was able to be physically seen by the audience. This is proof that I was able to show my emotions during the speech to the audience.
My delivery was not as dynamic as I would have wished. I was not able to use my hands properlyduring the delivery. I also stood at one part of the stage which means I did not properly utilize the stage. However, eye contact, rate of delivery, tone and the volume were all good summing up to the fact that I was articulate enough, and the speech was clearly heard by the listeners. What failed was the body movement. I did not properly use my hands to draw the students’ attention and also did not properly utilize the stage space.
The conclusion was not clear enough. I just highlighted the topics but did not summarize what I had talked about in the speech. The main points were not summarized. My main strengths in speech delivery come out as being articulate and ability to maintain eye contact with the audience. The weaknesses, on the other hand, are stage presence and use of body movements to enhance the delivery. These weaknesses make me wish that I had my hands stay above my waist all through the delivery and I had been moving around the stage when delivering the speech. These, coupled with involving the audience by asking questions, are the three things that I will try toimprove in my next speech.
