Anxiety is a temporary feeling of worry or fear. Once this feeling becomes permanent and annoy you even after the object of anxiety disappear, anxiety takes the form of disorder. Anxiety disorder has rather negative impact on person, who has this disorder and for his whole family as well.
There are different types of anxiety disorders. Among them, specific phobias; they can be described as standing strong fear of a specific object or situation. For example, fear of spiders, heights, blood or darkness. Object is not the reason of fear. The reason is the result of meeting with the object or having contact with some situation.
Almost every child has some fears. I was not an exception. I had many fears including fear of blood, fear of spiders, of snakes as well. I clearly remember, that I avoided meeting with those things. For me it was a very stressful situation to have a contact with spiders, snakes or blood. When these situations arose, I started to shout, sometimes even cry. It was an awful feeling of helplessness.
Regarding hemophobia, it was a real disaster for me to donate blood at the hospital. My parents informed all doctors that this procedure might lead to loss of consciousness. This was happening on a subconscious level. Neither me, nor my parents could not fix the situation. However, with the passage of time, this situation had changed. Of course, I am not satisfied with the appearance of blood, but now the reaction is not so catastrophic.
Currently, I am facing one fear, which is arachnophobia. Spiders cause fear in me even when I see them on the television or in some magazine. When meeting a spider, I have a feeling of strong anxiety. My heart starts to beat faster, hands are trembling and I want to run away. The worst is that you cannot do anything with yourself in order to overcome fear. This feeling is overwhelming you at this moment. I clearly remember one situation from my childhood. A very big black spider climbed up on my hand. Firstly, I did not notice that; just felt something is on my hand. After seeing this spider on me, I was so scared. It was so long ago, however, this situation is still in my mind.
We all want to overcome our phobias. From my experience, the better decision is to learn more about the object of your fear. You have to understand, that all these “scary” things are only in your mind. Spiders and blood are not so dangerous. It is only your imagination. Do not avoid those things; just try to learn as more as possible about them and with a time passed, you will definitely convince yourself, that you can live without any phobias. At least, this fear will not be so overwhelming, will not damage you from the inside and will not become an obstacle for your successful social life.
