Sport is a very interactive activity; there is a need for two-way communication between the athletes for a better understanding of each other, and also the game. The main aim of the athletes or the teams involved is to emerge the victors. And due to the tension built up during such competitions, it is important to take a close look at sporting activities between different kinds of sportsmen. In this case, we are going to look at the relationship between the sporting event in a high school and tertiary level, in this instance, a college.
The human body tends to advance with age; the changes include both physical and psychological. Hence, we may conclude that the sportsmen and women in colleges have got more physic compared to their high school counterparts. The implication behind this is that the athletic power in high school athletes is of lesser intensity compared to the college athletes. In this light then one would say that a sporting event in a high school setup would be very different to that of one in a college although there are similarities too.
Team spirit
The way a high school athlete would approach a competition is very different to a college athlete. Taking factors such as scholarships based in sporting progress and the urge to prove who is better, the high school sportsman will authentically put a much better effort. In a football match I attended, I realized that the high school student athletes were very keen on impressing college coaches looking for good athletes to give a scholarship to their colleges. As for the college athletes, sporting is mainly because of the love of it or for fame, hence making it more of a fan entertaining platform. For the entertainment to be complete, there is more team spirit developed, since the same team athletes aim to uphold the institution's name rather than theirs.
Interaction between players and the media
It is quite surprising how both athletes are so free to interact. I realized that it was a norm for an athlete to express his or herself about the game. When they get a chance to speak to the media, they say how they felt about the game in an honest and reasonable way. For instance, if the match for this case football, the athletes would agree that the game was challenging if it was and also admit when there were several faults and miscalculations in their teams without blaming the opponent team. The relation is quite intriguing since it is expected of the college athletes to be of a greater intellect while answering to the media yet their high school counterparts tend to act as mature as them.
Accessing the players and their coaches
In the college sporting event, I attended and probably other college institutions, the use of passes is very common. Is a fan wants to confront say a coach after a game, it is almost impossible unless one has all the passes needed. The confinement of fans is entirely unnecessary since in a high school setup there is little isolations and virtually no use of passes. Comparing this two types of sporting events, it is certain that a direct correspondence with athletes is only possible in high schools hence making it more interactive and also open.
Game intensity
The excitement of a match will always keep the fans at the edge of their sits throughout the gaming period. The advancement in tackling amongst athletes grows with the level of the athlete; this implies that the game intensity in a college sporting event is greater than in high school. The skill gained by the athletes keeps on developing and so the sporting event has got more ability attached to it. In a high school sporting event, it is likely to experience a game of a much lesser impact and skill. The athlete will tend to play without entirely adhering to the coach’s instructions since the athletes quickly get absorbed into the game without putting thought and skill in play, hence making college sports more exciting to watch.
Similarity in coaches
The coaches in every sporting activity tend to share similar characteristics. There are those very strict ones that are feared by the athletes, and then there are those that are less rigorous and relate in a milder way to the athletes. There are also media hating coaches and those that would take every opportunity given to address the media. One last similarity is that coaches in both sporting activities tend to train their athletes to exploit their opponent’s weaknesses. And thus it is in every game be it based in high school or college gaming tactics are common.
When one attends a sporting activity in high school and then expects to relate it to a similar one in a college, then in a debate on their similarities and difference, there would indeed emerge a tie. The similarities and differences appear to outweigh each other and also; we realize that the differences are not very true in most cases. Let us take game intensity as an example; it is true to say that the athletic gaming depth in a college sports event is greater than that of a high school event. However, if two great high school rival teams met for a match, the intensity might even be superior to that of a college game. Hence, these differences are relative and thus making both sporting events similar in most aspects.
