The given text was delivered by Steve Jobs while addressing students of Stanford University in the year June, 2005. Steve Jobs is a well known person and does not require any introduction. He is CEO and founder of the Apple computers. Apple is very renowned name in the field of technology and famous for continuous innovations. The speaker was one of the best entrepreneurs in the world hence he was expected to tell the students what made him so big. He disclosed how he became a well-known name for everyone in very short span of time. While addressing students he detailed out all factors that contributed towards his growth and vision.
The major argument quoted by Steve in his speech is “you have got to find, what you love”. As per Steve everyone should do what they love to do. Speaker mentioned that one should always look for once interest and desires. If you are not interested in something then leave that particular thing because it will not yield good results. On the other hand if you do the things of your interest you will get good results. Steve supported his argument with three stories. All the three stories are true stories of his life. He described different phases and decision he had taken in past. He further mentioned that how these decisions impacted his life at later stage.
Steve started his first story by raising a question against his decision of dropping college. He asked this question to all students “why he dropped the college”? Steve gave a brief background about his childhood. He mentioned that his biological mother wanted him to be adopted by graduates’ parents but he was adopted by high school pass father. They made a promise to my biological mother that they will send me to college for graduation and they owner their promise. They send me to Reed College which was very expensive. I was unable to find any value in college tuition. I realize that I am getting nothing ever after putting all my parents’ money so I decided to leave the college. The decision was very hard and difficult but today I can say that it was best decision of my life. I utilized my time in learning something that was interesting to me like calligraphy, serif, typefaces and other related things. I used all my learning’s while designing mac computer. Mac was first system which had beautiful typography; it was copied by window also. So now we can see how my decision to drop out the college impacted not only my life but also gave beautiful typography to whole world. I would have not achieved this without my decision to leave the college. Steve said that if you want to make difference in your life you have to believe in yourselves.
Steve move further with his second story. In this story Steve said that it does not matter how hard the time is, do not loss your faith. You will never down if you love what you have done and what you feel is right. Steve said that he was very happy with success of Apple and his achievements at an early age of 30 but suddenly he was fired from Apple. It became a public affairs and biggest failure for him. He was very upset but he always loved what he did. Apple incident did not change his faith and trust. His faith gave him strength to start over again and he started two companies NeXT and Pixar within five years. Pixar is now a well-known animation studio and NeXT was acquired by Apple. Steve came back in Apple through NeXT acquisition. Steve mentioned that it was best and creative era of his life. All this happened because of the Apple incidents. Sometime life checks your patients by giving you a little hard time but you should never loss your faith and trust. Always trust what you have done and what you love.
Steve moves further with his third story in which he mentioned about one quote. As per that quote one should perform the tasks in a manner as it is the last day of his life. He mentioned that death is reality of life which everyone has to face. Steve quoted death as a change agent which removes old to create passage for new. If someone is new today very soon he will be old so the time every one has is very limited. People waste their time in listening others opinions, thoughts but there is no time for such things, Steve suggests. You should listen to your desires, intuitions and inner voice. Trust and faith is much required to follow your own intuition and inner voice. Steve ended his speech with a note for all students “Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish”.
