A successful sport event becomes classified as successful due to the presence of crucial factors whose integrated incorporation maximized financial returns and audience impact. According to Solomon (2002), a good event, which includes sports, should effectively be planned way in advance and should consider the following factors as duly accounted for: the budget, athletes and sponsors, tickets, as well as negotiated television contract. In addition to this, one honestly believes that the impact that the sport event have generated on the audience in terms of the entertainment pleasure and the volume of viewership contributes to the success. In this regard, one is convinced that a successful sport event has always been the National Football League (NFL) games.
In the article written by Yoder (2013), it was revealed that “in the list of the 50 most watched events in 2013 through the MLB All Star Game, the NFL dominates the list” (Yoder, 2013, par. 2). The statistical details in number of viewership attested to the success of these events. According to Yoder (2013), from the list of top 10 most watched sports events, ten of them already belong to the NFL” (par. 3). Likewise, the NFL announced that viewers for the Super Bowl “generated nearly 10 million live video streams, up more than 100 percent from last year, resulting in a record 114.4 million minutes streamed, which was up 46 percent over last year's game” (National Football League, 2013, par. 2). In addition the sheer amount of revenues generated by the NFL games reportedly reached $9.5 billion in 2012 .
One is therefore convinced that these events, apart from their sheer popularity as the perfect epitome of American sports, contained all the essential ingredients mentioned by Solomon (2002). It takes effective leadership to ensure that all the elements to make an endeavor successful are appropriately integrated through strategies that facilitate the achievement of defined number of viewership, maximized use of funds, enabling the forging of television contracts, ensuring tickets are sold, and containing all the appeal that audience looks for in a sports event.
