The article “Supply Chain Management in the Internet Age” was authored by Professor Hau Lee. Professor Lee remains sensitive to the influence of the internet on how activities are supposed to flow in business. He recognizes internet to have exclusive influence to scale, substitution, and structural sections of an organization.
He recognizes the significance of internet on supply chain management. He argues that it has created business opportunities within this line of business. He argues that organizations should not settle for substitution effect or the scale effect when reaping the merits of the internet to management of a supply chain. A technologically driven supply chain has extensive opportunities to increase productivity of a given business.
However, operators as well as owners of various organizations need to identify with available opportunities for structural advances to their supply chain, to enable those changes to occur. He argues that with exclusive concern among operators and owners of organizations various merits may be realized. He says that there will be new collaborative ventures that should act as improvement for the existing products or the system can lead to extremely new product lines.
In his presentation, Lee cites companies that have highly benefited through encouraging the changes that he precipitates. This has been done through excellent integration of supply chain management and the internet. Production stands to improve under fast speed of products movement. Minimum time is spent in supply chain unlike in conventional ways of transporting goods.
Transport is not the only element that is improved. It becomes to maintain high quality products during transport since there lack delays which may destroy goods. Internet also aids in monitoring goods as they move from one region to another. This is what may be referred to as enhancement of supply chain management.
