After completing the secondary research, we wanted to find critical information that was not possible through secondary research methods. The collection of information required utilizing simple random survey of students and their accommodation preferences. A simple random survey has been utilized as the method of primary research for the study. Therefore, we started to collect data by surveying University of Calgary students and asking their opinion. Every member of the research group was assigned five students to survey in a random manner. Students were approached for collecting information at different campus locations such as library and student’s residence. Surveys were printed and shared with the surveyed students in person.
The objective of the survey was only revealed to the students after they had completed the survey. The survey was made up of both scaled-response and open-ended questions. The survey size was made up of a double sided single page. The open ended questions were used to explore the necessary amenities that students look for while choosing their accommodation. Additionally, the survey’s scaled responses included answering questions that rated the accommodation types. On the contrary, the close ended questions were prepared for answering about the main travelling causes of students and the total number of times they had travelled annually. The combination of both primary and secondary research helped in completing the research of students’ accommodation preferences and the cause of travelling.
Conclusion
The combination of primary and secondary research has been useful in collecting information about student’s accommodation preferences. The secondary research provides the necessary information on the issue through current available literature and articles. The open and close ended questions, help in exploring the choices made by students and generate primary data.
