Best buy is one of the most successful companies in the USA, which has survived in the market despite the ever changing and market environment. Additionally, it has successfully contended with its rivals such as Walmart and Amazon. There are reasons as to why Best buy has achieved sustained competitive advantage. The company has established and maintained a well-trained sales personnel who are extremely knowledgeable about the products that they are offering to the customers (Loeb). To attain this, the company had to invest in the sales staff personal development through training. The content in these training has to include up to date information, especially concerning new technology involving all the latest electronic devices. Having a knowledgeable staff is important in ensuring efficient customer service as all the customers’ needs are dealt satisfied.
The advantage has lasted for long since the sales staffs are always current with changes in the market, especially concerning new electronic products on the market. They are then able to sufficiently deal with all inquiries and advise customers as to which products will satisfy their needs. Because of satisfied needs, the customers become loyal and this results in high revenues and profits for the company. This then creates and sustains the company’s competitive advantage against its competitors
According to Jackson, Hitt and DeNisi, training sales staff is an effective strategy for companies that aspire to maintain a competitive advantage over their competitors (9). Apart from establishing better and efficient work methods, training also fosters innovation and creativity amongst employees resulting in overall customer satisfaction. Best buy has, therefore, invested heavily in the training of its sales staff and this has resulted in the high sales volumes and competitive advantage enjoys.
