Question 1
The export of American diet has made people exposed to diseases and conditions related to bad diet. The number of fat people has increased due to eating of foods that have a high energy intake. An example is eating of burgers and packed food which have made people fat. The number of fat people in Mexico and Egypt is three times higher than America.
There is a change in the method of preparation of food. These days, people eat fast foods and Coca-Cola products and ignore the traditionally prepared foods. Adding sugar to bread such as in Brazil has led to a rise in the number of diabetes cases. This has increased use of more money in providing health care.
Question 2
The modern food industry has affected the nutritional value of traditional foods. The method of preparation of traditional foods such as noodles has been affected by mass production in industries. In China, the traditional foods used to have whole grains in it, which is nutritious, but is lost during industrial production. Fiji used to produce its own fruits; these have been replaced by soda and meat.
Question 3
The change in the way of life also contributes to people being fat. Introduction of television sets-95 per cent of China have TV sets- has made people to watch television instead of working in the farms. Introduction of cars has also reduced exercise through walking and bicycle riding.
Question 4
The poor suffer the most from being fat. This is because food that causes increase in weight is cheap. The poor can easily afford it. The poor also don’t know good health habits because of low educational levels. The lack of facilities for exercise such as the gym makes the poor to suffer the most from being fat.
