- Barbara was at first largely nonchalant over her visit to the dentist. Though she knew it can affect her work, she was still able to allot time for it. She may have had negative thoughts on some of the procedures but she did not consider it at the time of her visit.
- The series of unfortunate events that she experienced in the doctor’s office, however, has wended her initial perception towards going to the dentist. From waiting to paying, she only felt discomfort and irritation from the whole process. Furthermore, despite being assured by the receptionist and dentist her indisposition to what was happening to her made the gesture even more frustrating. Such that, these events led to a negative perception in general.
- Barbara’s reactions after the procedure are clear signs of her negative feelings and, probably, thoughts. She could not wait to leave the doctor’s office but still needed to drop by the receptionist table. While there, she could not answer the receptionist’s question of when her next appointment will be. Though this was mostly because of the anesthesia given to her, it was also partly because she felt insulted over the question.
- After the dental procedure, Barbara definitely believes that she has wasted significant time on going to the dentist. Aside from this, she had also wasted money on such an uncomfortable experience. It can be said that either Barbara would lose interest in going to the dentist in general or THAT dentist specifically.
- On her next visit, Barbara would think to adjust her time for her appointment to the dentist, which would be disadvantageous to her work. She also would have a painful and uncomfortable memory to go along with the visit. Safe to say, Barbara will have an initial negative attitude upon arrival at the doctor’s office.
- Definitely, people, or customer’s perceptions matter for business. While many companies develop different marketing strategies to appeal to their target market or customers, all can agree that a significant portion of potential customers will come from referrals of other people who have tried the products and services they are offering. As such, businesses make it a point not only to develop ads but also the product/service itself in order to attract more customers. As they usually say, “the customer is always right.”
- As with any other business type, consumer would usually consider “word-of-mouth” or referrals from other people as to whether they will avail of a certain product or service. For a service-oriented business such as dental clinics, businesses would usually rely on these referrals to establish a good following. If say a rumor has spread on the lack of good service of the clinic, this can cause in a significant loss of potential customers and probably current ones, Capitalizing on improvement of the clinic’s service will greatly help prosperity in the business.
- Even if some avoid it, people will always be aware of and practice what the general public thinks and does, respectively. Societal beliefs are no exception to this rule. We may have our own way of thinking but it is also affected most of the times by what other people are thinking or saying. Through this, a status quo is developed. This dictates what we consider acceptable, worthy and believable data as oppose to objectionable, dishonorable, or implausible ones.
