I know my friend who is resilient as he has been successful against the odds. The resilience indicates the healthy development in the form of the risk factors (Hutchison, 2012). The parents of my friend were not in the position to afford the education of their son. Their family members and the neighbors did not help them. They were in a condition that sometimes they did not have any food to eat. His father was paralyzed and mother had to look after the father. He learned from the attitudes and behavior of people in the society that he has to do something on its own in order to earn his livelihood and to bear the expenses of his education.
So, he did part time job, though he got lower pay, but later on he got rise in his salary. He became capable of completing his degree and bore the expenses of his family. His life was influenced by the expectations and the norms of people. People expected so much from him but they did not help him.
The risk factors in this case include the behavior and the attitude of people that have aggravated the problem as he was not helped by anyone. The protective factors in this case comprise of the personal characteristics such as the positive behavior, confidence and the optimistic attitude that encouraged my friend to do job in order to earn for his education, and for his family. The protective factors also include the social factors, such as the attitude of people living in the society that have compelled him to do some work and earn for himself as well as for the family. Further, he also got the opportunity to work in the organization and to earn in an effectual manner that encouraged him to live a good life.
