In my opinion, the owner should elaborate the strategy directed to the elimination of conflicts that arise due to the differences in salary amounts. First of all, the discussion about salaries should be prohibited in the restaurant and also in case the staff still argues about it often, Gino can regulate the issue with the tips. For example, all the tips can be divided between the servers in equal parts, or similar.

In my opinion, business and family should be treated as separate things, especially in case when the owner’s family members work for the same restaurant. Close relationships is a good thing, but the members of the family tend to quarrel eventually. Such episodes bring harm to business. Therefore, the owner should promote business-style relationships and communication between the staff members. This will decrease the number of conflicts and make the working process smoother.
4
In the larger organization the conflict between Riley and Gary usually receives more attention. As the restaurant is small, in fact, it does not have any corporate philosophy or the Code of Conduct. Also the owner has difficulties with retaining good specialists and thus does not punish Riley significantly. In the larger organization Riley would most probably be fired and/or exposed to the significant sanctions.
5
I suppose, Guido would have treated the situation differently in case Riley attacked his family member. First of all, it is the threat to the person’s health and Guido would have paid more attention to the accident. Also he could have considered to fire Riley or to decrease his salary in case of the injury to the family member. Any manager would treat his family member differently in comparison with the other staff, especially in case of conflicts.
6
I think the relocation of Riley was the main reason why Gina and Guido decided to keep him. He was the only one person that relocated with the owner and therefore he was highly esteemed by them. Also the owner is focused on keeping the “old” and experienced staff in the restaurant. One more reason could be that Guido knew him before relocation to the U.S. and treated him as a friend.
7
It depends on the characteristics of the harm that was caused to him. In case the harm is significant, he may have to spend significant amounts for the medical treatment due to it. In any case, he is injured and has already spent time and money for it. In case of the lawsuit he would get a chance to receive some compensation from Riley. But in case Gary is sure that the injury is not serious and will not cause him any problems in the future, than probably it is a good decision not to file a lawsuit.
8
I suppose Guido should try to establish some kind of the corporate culture in the restaurant, even though it is not a large organization. He should have a conversation with every person he hires before the working start and make him or her aware about the rules that should be followed in the restaurant. In case of any incident, Guido should pay an appropriate attention to it and to the conflict’s resolution.

Bill is a very good specialist. For this reason he is highly esteemed by the management and also he may be too proud about himself and his outstanding skills. This can be the reason for some of his behaviors that irritate the other staff. When other individuals complain on him, it is appropriate to draw their attention to the fact of his high professional level and ask them not to take his behavior seriously. At the same time it is necessary to remind Bill to be more polite with the other people.

It would be useful to explain Lora that she has to work on her professional level and on her personality. She may consult other staff members in case she has difficulty to copy with some new challenging task. Her motivation will grow with the professional level, as she will see more results from her work. Motivation is closely related with the work productivity that will be increasing in case she will anticipate the outcomes of her work.
3
First of all, the employer should check the professional level of every candidate. Their work experience and probable issues related to it should also be taken into account as this may have influence upon the successful cooperation with this person. I think I would hire Bill anyway because he is a good specialist. Everyone has their own character and personality, but talent has a crucial importance for the organization’s success.

Speaking about high and low seasons, it is necessary that all the managers have and deeply understand the company’s strategy in this respect. Workers should be given a possibility to earn more during the high season that will partially allow them to remain calm and confident during the low one. The restaurant should not fire good professionals at the beginning of the low season and better invite temporary additional staff for the high season, e.e. students and interns.

Barb can suspect either staff member or customers. In case there are no cameras in the building, it may become a challenge to find out who took the money. Barb should collect as much information as possible and consult with the other managers. In case everything was properly closed, she may use the police to investigate the situation.
6
As mentioned above, I think video cameras would be very helpful in this situation. Moreover, they are successfully used all around the world for the same reason. Of course, it is necessary to check people very carefully before employment, but the possibility of theft will always exist.
7
New restaurant should be equipped better. In addition to the cameras, everything should be locked and controlled properly. The restaurant may also need to hire 24/7 security staff in order to observe what is happening in the building and handle the arising incidents professionally.
8
Rumors are typical for many companies. Barb should promote respect among the employees by her own example. She should spend more time for discussing working issues with the employees and not their personal lives. Even though rumors may sometimes be helpful to reveal some necessary information, still they should be considered to be negative activity and discouraged.
9
Usually, there is one management style agreed and adopted for the company. In the situation with the restaurant it is also appropriate. The management style should be chosen taking into account many aspects, such as market conditions, employees, customers, location, and etc. with the purpose to reach the best results in business.
