Example Of The King's Speech Movie Review

The movie "The King's speech" tells us the story of one great monarch that had problems with oral communication, he stuttered. This problem was extremely disturbing for him, as being a King means being a good orator, the King has to be inspiring, he needs to motivate and support his lieges through the good and through the bad times. The King George VI had all the qualifications for being a great leader except for the ability to promote speeches. This is where the story begins.
It is very difficult for me to choose one favorite part of the movie as I truly enjoyed watching it, and I think that the film is great from the beginning till the end. However, if I have to highlight some great moments, the first one would be the scene when Lionel spent time with his children, one of the boys said it was Shakespeare's time, so Lionel left the room, and then he opened the door again edging sideways into the doorway. The expression of his face was serious, he was acting, and children had to guess who he was. Lionel is a great character, I love the demonstrations of his self-confidence and insolence, for example in the scene before the coronation. He was about to practice the speech with the King, and when something didn't work out he just sat in the Coronation chair. The character of Bertie is also amusing, he is supposed to be rugged and arrogant, however we can see kind, timid monarch, with a good sense of humor and no fear to show his emotions. I love the scene when Bertie came to Logue after they had a fight, this was the first time they had a sincere conversation discussing personal things. Logue promised Bertie that he will let him to color the plane, if he answers his questions, and after he did, Bertie grabbed that plane like a little child and started coloring it. Watching the relationship of these two grown-up men was like watching the father and his son spending time together.
The last scene I would like to tell about is when Bertie gives the speech; there were just two of them in the room, Lionel joined the King to support him. By that time it was obvious that their relationship was much more than just cooperation, it was true friendship supported by care and gratitude. Logue taught Bertie how to prepare himself for public speaking, all the exercises including singing instead of talking, or dancing while saying something to facilitate the process helped him to prepare for his first speech in the role of a King and make his hicks sound as they were just pauses to make the speech more dramatic. This episode was one of the most powerful in the movie, it was the moment when the King proved himself, and everyone else, that he was meant to be in this position. This small episode combined love, care, pride, courage, friendship and admiration, this is what made it so beautiful.
As for me, I really enjoyed watching the movie. Except for all the beautiful episodes I discovered something new for myself, the way Lionel divided the whole text into parts showing where you need to make a pause, or a full stop. This is something so simple, but I wouldn’t think of it if I was preparing for the public speaking. It is nice to know that this movie left a great impression and taught me something new.
