The Mayans is one of the greatest civilizations that ever existed. They have a culture that is rich of traditions. They have knowledge’s like their development of their calendar that was beyond the advancement for their era. The greatest question is what happens to the Mayans?
This is a question that is countless debated among historians, anthropologists, people inserted in Mayan history and other people. This paper will reflect on one theory of the mystery of what happen to the Mayans. It will also reflect evidence to support this theory.
The article from Smithson magazine, “ Secrets of the Maya: Deciphering Tikal after decades of initial research, the ancient ruins of Mexico and Central America are yielding new insights into the pre-Columbia culture,” provides a great in-depth article into the history and lives of Mayan. In the article, it states from one of the anthropologists the mystery may be because of sudden and rapid decline with civilization. This same archaeologist that teaches at University of Pennsylvania further states that, at this time of this sudden collapse, the Mayans were dealing with concerns like overpopulation and famine.
The article further states that by intensive and doing more research within the Mayan sites can we hope help solve the puzzle with the Mayan. The article mentions another anthropologist who also states that, with each puzzle that is solved; it leads to unopened questions and adds more to the mystery.
The mystery is helped with understanding the Mayan hieroglyphic the article states. The article also further states intensive research with this and the Mayan handwriting leads to evidence of their culture foundations. It also mentions the other artifacts of the Mayan cultures that help define the foundation of the Mayan culture.
The Mayan culture was also known for their extreme war skills. They were also known for their scarf ices of humans body to their gods for blood was important virtual in their virtual. They kept the heads of the bodies and use their skills to build a wall. This wall was meant to be a sign of warning of fear and terror for their enemies. The Mayan was involved with the Spanish Conquest. While there is knowledge from this, there is still more to be discovering of the Mayan skills of war.
Again, the article mentions the mystery of the Mayan is unknown, but it could be do abrupt drop in civilization. It can also be because of the current circumstances that Mayan was facing at that time. Again, to support this, the article mentions that the Mayan hieroglyphs and other artifacts give proof.
Proof is needed to solve any mystery. In the article, it is mention how the mystery of what has happened to Mayans has been debated throughout history. Learning more about the Mayans can help bring more theories to this mystery. One of the questions is can this mystery ever by solved?
The answer for this is unknown at this time. As the article stated the more research done in this field, and finding of confirmations and deciphering them, will give clues to the history of Mayas. Who knows what artifact can still be found about the key of what happen to the Mayans.
