Abstract
In the past employees were required to be in the same geographical location as their place of work, but with recent innovations especially technological this is not the case.Sourcing and recruitment of employees can be done all over the world as long as the are fit for the job.The removal of bounderies and increased access to other parts of the word has lead to increased competition for jobs and only the most qualified are selected. This kind of changes in the work environment have had an impact in the every day life because of the issues that they have raised. The work environment is filled with diversity issues and one requires certain experiences in order to succeed.
Friedman (2005) found that technological advancement has changed the way the world works. The key change is that people can work from any corner of the world and do not have to be in the same geographical location as their employer. This work paradigm is a great change for everyone no one is limited in exploring new fields. Those people who will take up the challenge equip themselves and adapt to the small world working environment will reap great rewards.
Manpower China (2005) found that most international companies based in China are having problems in filling executive managerial positions. The hiring and retaining employees is a problem that faces companies in China, they advise employers to embrace the local culture, review the benefits they offer and give consideration to employee development and growth. What Manpower China advocates for is important for any company in order to achieve efficiency and productivity. Companies with high employee turnovers will have increased costs of recruiting, training and low productivity not to forget loss of time and resources.
The new work environments are different in terms of technological advancements, cultural diversity, innovations and general disregard for geographical location. To succed in these work places one needs to be a fast learner and ready to change and embrace new ways of doing things so that you are not left behind as others forge forward. Also of paramount importance is hardwork and being ready to sacrifice somethings in oder to be at per with the intense competition.According to Friedman(2005) in this kind of work environment without bounderies, there are many people doing what you are doing and every day there is someone trying to do it better than you.
Another experience is being encouraged to have an open mind and be ready to learn new things. This is important in the workplace as nobody knows everything, one needs to be ready to learn new things that will improve your chances of excelling. This is especially so because the environment is dynamic and change is inevitable, this can be seen in the new innovations. In high school and college we also learn and see the benefit of hard work through the results we achieved. Hard work and being able to push that extra mile comes in handy because the new work environment is fast paced. In order to succeed one has to be able to sacrifice and do their best in whichever task you set your mind to.
The work paradigm has its great side and many benefits are realized from it however it also has its back side. The paradigm is fast paced and in order to remain relevant the employees have to work endlessly and are always in a quest to improve themselves. This means that there is less time or no time to rest and be involved in other aspects of life.Employees become one sided and all they know is about work while other areas like quality of family life is deteriorating.
In this paradigm the employees are a great asset and the success of any organization depends on them. That is the higher the level of their moyivation, engagement, commitment and job satisfaction the higher the level productivity and consequently profitability. The employees know their value and therefore most organizations and business have to review their payment packages and benefits that they offer employees. This is queite a challenge to those firms that are not in a position to offer this rewards both in financial form and in employee benefit. This firms cannot recruite and retain the most qualified in the market yet for them to match competitors and increase profitability they need this employees.
The commitment to learn and improve myself when the opportunity presents itself. To move out of the comfort zone and learn new things that will add on to skills and experiences better equipping one for this organizational environment. .
