There are many community based organizations in different places. All these are aimed at fulfilling a given need in the community. In order to identify the specific need that an organization has to address, there is the need for the organization to have information on the community. The essay below is a reflection on two community based organization, focusing on how they are informed.
The Fowler Road Agency is an organization concerned with ensuring the safety of the students. Based on the principles stated on its brochure (Fowler Road Agency, n.d), it is clear that the main aim of the organization is to ensure that the students are trained to be good members of the society. It rewards those who keep the school rules as outlined in the school behavior management list. There are three main objectives of the organization. It strives to make the students “safe, smart and prepared.”
Looking at these guidelines, it can be noted that this is an organization that is concerned with maintaining the virtues in the society. It has realized that the best way in making a morally upright society is by training the younger members of the society on the societal values. These are informed by eight simple rules: be safe, cooperate with staff, be friendly and fair, use polite language, do my best work, look after our things and be in the right place (Fowler Road Agency, n.d). These regulations are very clear and simple to understand.
Another organization is the Fairfield Migrant Resource Center (FMRC). This organization is focused on eliminating all forms of domestic violence from the community, especially towards children (FMRC, 2012). It alludes to the laws which have it that domestic violence is a crime and should not be tolerated. In line with this, the organization focuses on helping victims of domestic violence to get out of the situation and continue with their lives. it does not segregate between classes, races or gender. To deal with the problem of language barriers, it has interpretation services which ensure that anyone can be served effectively (FMRC, n.d).
In going about its work, the organization is informed by the three pillars of trauma informed care as suggested by Bath (2008). This helps in classifying trauma into two groups: Type 1 trauma which results from a single event of domestic violence and Type 2 trauma which is as a result of continuous abuse. The research also informs about the different effects of trauma such as emotional instability among other signs of post-traumatic stress disorder. The organization focuses on the three pillars of management which are safety, promotion of healing relationships and teaching self management and coping skills (Bath, 2008).
Looking at this perspective, it can be said that FMRC is a philanthropic organization that serves the unfortunate in the society. It has no boundaries but is bent on making sure that domestic violence is eliminated and everyone in the society is safe. From this exploration, I learnt that there are ways a teacher ca identify a victim of domestic violence and know the ways to help. It also acted as an eye-opener that everyone can do something to prevent this social crime from going on.
