Theories and models are said to be one of the fundamental aspects for research. They give a background under which research will be based on and provides reference point for the research being done. The two are said to be at the heart of planning, practice, and research. Theories and models are said to be influential in research on how evidence would be collected, used, interpreted, and analysed. Models are more complex than theories but they provide detailed information on a phenomenal thus being of greater importance in research. Research has a starting point and theories and models are said to provide an effective environment to develop a research. Most of the research that is being done today is as a result of questions of why the model was developed as put forward and why the theory really exists. The journal article selected in the analysis of values of models and theories in research is “the impact of evidence-based practice in nursing and the next big ideas”. The model presented in this journal is the ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation. This model is a five point star which highlights several forms of knowledge including the following:
Discovery- In this case, there is a representation of primary research studies
Evidence summary-this entails the synthesis of knowledge that has been compiled during the research
Translation into action-this is evidence based clinical practices
Integration into practice is evidence in action
Evaluation
The above stated model has been seen to be of great importance in research as well as evidence based practice as its utilisation has been key in the health sector. As such, theories and models are of great importance in research.
