Science states that human beings evolved from the ape- like creatures. Charles Darwin, the proponent of the evolution theory states in his book that there is fossil evidence that show the resemblance in these ancestors and present day human beings. Then one wonders why humans do not have tails, or better still, why some humans develop tail- like structures. Science has it that over time, all living things change and adapt to that change in a way that suits their living environment at any particular time. It is not surprising to state that in the next fifteen million years, human beings will have evolved to different body structures which will suit to their living environment at the time. It is against this backdrop that my research paper will discuss the various reasons as to why present day human beings do not have tails.
In the paper, there will be arguments why different animals have tails that perform different reasons. The tail can aid in balance, movement, flying, swat flies, communication and grasps and hold objects. One of the reasons humans may not be having a tail, therefore, could be for the simple reason of them needing it no more. For all the animals that have tails, they need them, and there is something the tail does for them. But as for human beings, one wonders what the use the tail may have bee. Humans may be lacking a tail for the simple reason of not needing it at all. The human body is naturally aligned to the center of gravity, and it passes from the backbone all through the legs. If the tail is put in this context then there could be a different way of walking and doing things. Humans have naturally adapted to their environments and do not need a tail anymore
Also, I will discuss why the tail is a limb that needs energy to grow and also maintain and how this will affect the general growth and development of the body. Apparently, the tail may not serve any purpose if it was present, but it could have used energy to grow. There is no point of having a limb that utilizes energy to grow, and it is not serving any purpose. This lack of growth could be wasted energy. Aside from this, the human bone structure of the spine and the position of the head make the body balanced. Humans walk on their two limbs and have legs that are joined at the knee to offer further balance. All the other animals that have a tail have to walk on their fours, and their heads seem slightly heavier than their bodies can support. The human body is structured in a way that it does not need a tail, and if it were to be present, it would have been an extra limb that serves no purpose at all.
The paper will also discuss how human tails are very rare, and if at all they have been seen, they cannot count to over hundreds in the last half a century. Those who have had them may never have had any use for it. Humans have tails for the first few weeks of life but disappear before a baby is born. If it was to grow further and become visible after birth, it is no doubt that a human tail could have served not more than a decorative tool. Tails have got no purpose on the human body today. Going by the few cases that have been reported, a human tail is much of skin and no bone, it may not serve any purpose, and that is why humans do not need a tail.
