Education is one of the most important requirements in the world. Many countries are struggling to achieve universal education for their citizens. One of the most prominent international bodies that has been helping in education and general improvement of living standards, especially among children, is UNICEF. One of the main targets of UNICEF is to ensure that by 2015, all children should be able to achieve full course compulsory primary school all over the world.
UNICEF has been advocating for universal education for all children through fighting the disparities that exist in the education systems. Girls have been disadvantaged more than boys since majority of them face unique challenges as opposed to boys. It has also ensured that young adults receive the necessary skills that help them in the life after school. These skills ensure that the young adults can utilize them to earn a living and consequently improve their lives. Enrolling to schools does not guarantee that these students clear the course. It is because of this situation that UNICEF comes up with mechanisms to help in retention of the students in schools. The organization initiates feeding programs in the third world countries to encourage the students remain in school. In addition, girls are provided with basic care, such as sanitary pads that might be too expensive for the poor girls to afford.
In the third-world countries, there are many orphans as result of HIV/AIDS and internal conflict leading. UNICEF provides medical assistance to the children and food so that they remain in school. Such improves the living standards of the children. UNICEF also helps in supply of clean water to the schools and homes of the children.
