War on terror
Define the axis of evil, as explained by President G.W. Bush, explaining both the negative and positive outcomes of this foreign policy.
The axis of evil is a term that was first introduced by President G. W. Bush in the State of Union address of 29 January 2002 (Segell, 2005). The president used the term to refer to three countries that were ordinary enemies as well as threats to the United States since they were known for terrorism as well as nuclear attack. Iran, Iraq and North Korea were described by Bush as having nuclear weapons, and they were lumped together as principal instigators in terrorist deeds and attacks (Segell, 2005). Consequently, the president used the term to illustrate that the three nations were becoming a growing danger. Since the inception of the term, dissimilar reactions and impacts have been realized. Initially, this foreign policy was a birth to positive steps towards disarming these countries and forging a war against terrorism across the globe. Consequently, this has been realized to a great extent. The foreign policy however greatly altered the relationship between the United States, the three countries and the entire Middle East. These countries realized that they were major targets hence have always sought new ways of countering that. Because of this, a resultant arms race has emerged in the international system.
Explain how the War on Terror, as defined by President G.W. Bush, and continued through the present day has impacted the lives of Americans.
The war on terror was advanced by President Bush’s administration following the terrorist attack in America in September 2011. The main intent of this war was a justification of security policies in America and armed interventions in other countries. The war on terror has however impacted on the lives of Americans dissimilarly. Initially, this war has resulted to a culture of fright in America. Most Americans are much scared since the inception of the war and no longer feel safe in their own country. Consequently, it has been much complicated to carry on even with the simplest activities like traveling. This follows the tight security measures at airports and other traveling points since people are afraid of another attack. Additionally, the American government is using a lot of resources in financing the war .This has also affected the economy indirectly and particularly the cost of living, which has really gone up.
