In situations where teenagers find themselves depressed from disappointments, boredom, internal strife, among other factors, they tend to turn to drugs, which they think will offer solutions to their problems. In the case of disappointment, teenagers lack a social channel to wipe away this brand of frustrations. Due to this fact, they select types of substances that will give them a delightful, wonderfully contented and energized sensation hence they fall prey to drug abuse. Moreover, boredom and internal strife, which is commonly referred to as inner rebellion, as well predisposes teenagers to substance and chemical abuse. In the case of boredom, thus, marijuana alcohol and cocaine becomes the next of kin for these bored teenagers. This is because; this drug preoccupies their mind making them overlook their bored state. Alcohol is chiefly chosen by angry teenagers as it frees them to exhibit mannerisms of an aggressive nature, thus releasing and easing themselves from the predominant internal struggles.
Secondly, substance abuse is prevalent among the youths due to the influence that resulted from peers. Teenagers observe their friends, parents and another populace in the society using these materials who afterwards introduce them to the system. Peers regularly confront their friends who are non-addicts to these drugs through ridicule. They offer some of these drugs to them and then ask them to try. As time progress, the non-addicts tries out these new realities of life and thus they too become worse drug dependants.
