Example Of What Did I Learn Essay

Throughout this semester my writing improved significantly, since I have been reading a lot more thanks to this course. At the beginning of the term, I thought that each sentence had to have a conjunction or an exclamation mark, which detracted the value of my discourse and made it childlike, illegible and, quite frankly, kind of annoying. I pushed my own limits and started doing critical thinking upon what I wrote, how I wrote, and how frequently I did it; therefore, I increased my writing frequency and expanded my vocabulary into new horizons, so I can become a better writer, a better discourse maker.
This course also taught me the courage to speak up my ideas, because sometimes you might feel a tad insecure regarding making a statement, owning it and feeling like your own person. It taught me how to grow up, how to approach universal themes from a literary point of view, such as war, love, inner strength and other matters that make us human. What I read in class certainly changed the way I thought about work ethics, making me try to give my greatest effort, even though sometimes the rewards will not be seen on the short run.
Writing, like any other discipline, is an exercise. It must be perfected each day by pouring your soul into the oblivion that is the blank piece of paper, and that is precisely what I learned here: I lost the fear to jump into the void, and with it I take the greatest teaching that I could have ever received: I found myself and a brand new path to follow.
