Introduction
Diversity is not a new term in the contemporary society since it has existed for many centuries. Most countries have strived to embrace diversity in their governance in pursuit of maintaining status quo and social order. United States of America has scaled high echelons in embracing diversity, but it has not attained the desirable outcome. Under the American history, prominent personalities and activists such as Martin Luther King Junior and his eminent President Barrack Obama have played a pivotal role in addressing this issue. In his opening speech, President Obama emphasized unity of the Americans by encouraging them to embrace diversity as a way to enhance democracy and promote coexistence (Weinland 1). During the 2012 Presidential campaigns, political leaders echoed similar sentiments in pursuit of unifying the country. Although politicians, social movements, and government officials have strived to eradicate the vice, it remains impossible to address the issue of diversity in totality because it is deeply rooted in the society and in institution of higher learning.
Diversity has not been embraced in learning institutions because students are scrutinized based on racial background, ethnicity, age, religion affiliation, political aspect, and social economic status to name, but a few. It is imperative for policy makers and curriculum developers to embrace diversity by establishing a faculty aimed at inculcating this attribute among the students. True meaning of diversity in campus can be realized through inclusivity and by changing the perception of students.
This topic remains relevant because it address a contemporary problem that exists in our learning institutions and affects academic performance and social life of the students.
Proposed plan of study
- Proposed thesis statement
Lack of true meaning of diversity in campus is a challenge and institutions of higher learning should embrace diversity by establishing a faculty aimed at inculcating this attribute among the students.
The report will address the following aspects:
- Previous literature illustrate that numerous problems experienced in learning institutions such as strikes, demonstrations, homicide and suicide can be resolved through embracing diversity.
- Articulate the importance of embracing diversity in institution of higher learning through a faculty program.
- Elaborate how diversity in campus can be attained and enhance its sustainability.
Methods
Before commencing this project, I would first research extensively to broaden and familiarize with the topic under investigation and write down short notes to guide the discussion. Secondly, research findings coupled with facts will be used to support the argument. Thirdly, after completing the above steps, I will start compiling the material and write a comprehensive report.
Sources
Scholarly journals, books, and web page will be used in the report. However, the following two sources will form the foundation of the entire discussion.
