If a file is accidently deleted in a shared folder it can be easily recovered. If you accidently overwrite a file you can recover it from its earlier versions. You can also compare the folder with earlier versions of it and compare what has been changed.

Windows Server Backup in Windows 2008 contains MMC snap-In, command-line tools, and Windows Power Shell cmdlets that provides you a complete solution for day to day backup that can completely recover your system in case of a disaster.
Windows Recovery Environment
The Windows Recovery Environment is a partial version of the Windows operating system. Once the Windows system is backed up, the Windows recovery environment can used to restore the system to its earlier state. (Technet.microsoft.com, 2014)
