SECTION B: Strategies for achieving professional goals and how to implement them.
In today’s organizations, employees have to develop and manage their professional goals in order to determine the next move for their career path. To achieve the professional objectives, an individual needs to develop unique strategies that enable him/her to climb the organizational ladder at an ease. It is notable that moving up in once career path is never an easy task. One of the best strategies of achieving set professional goals is through mentorship. For instance, in an organization a junior worker may select an older employee who is higher in the organizational structure. Mentors ensure that the people they are mentoring not only receives career guidelines, but also help them to create a good reputation within the organization. Another strategy for progressing in a career is through continuous learning. In todays business set up, technology is changing rapidly, consumers tastes and preferences are highly volatile which makes the business environment highly unpredictable. Whether an individual is intending to change a career or moves up in the career path, learning plays a crucial role in ensuring that employees acquires new skills and knowledge. Acquiring new knowledge also ensures that the employees are familiar with the current trends in the industry. In addition, the employees need to be result oriented. Individuals seeking a progress in the career path should always learn how to quantify their results. By keeping a detailed report of quantified results, an employee is able to prove his or her commitment to the company’s performance. While the intention of career development may be an individual effort, one should also remain open to other parties in the workplace. For instance, if an employee is seeking for promotion it wise to ensure that it is known throughout the organization. This approach of ‘selling out yourself’ not only creates an awareness, but also proves one’s self confidence.
SECTION C: Interviewing
Conducting interviews is one most effective way used in job recruiting. While interviews can be used to select the best candidate for the job, they can also leads to a company putting off the fit candidates if the process is not well conducted. From my viewpoint, the interviewer should avoid creating an environment that is distracting and intimidating. At Goldman 2013 point out, interviewers who use scare tactics such as asking personal questions or failing to give the interviewee enough time to internalize the questions may end up losing the most suitable candidate. Allowing interview candidates to interact prior to the interview has been observed to be a positive approach of landing the best job applicant. From this perspective, the interviewing panel is able to understand the candidate’s special traits such as creativity, competitiveness, job interests, among others. For instance, the interviewer may ask a single question at random to determine the candidate’s level of creativity.
SECTION D: Best practices for preparing for a new job or an interview.
Keep on learning
It has been observed to be the most appropriate way to get the new skills, knowledge and expertise. One should consider enrolling for online courses that relates to one career path. As a result, one is able to familiarize themselves with the current trends in the industry.
Do thorough research
Whether it is a new job, an interview or preparing for a promotion, a thorough research about the company or the industry enables one to have the clear oversight on what to expect (Donald et al, 2008). By doing a thorough research about the firm, the interviewee will be to answer the thoughtful questions that the interviewer ask during the interview. Donalds et al (2008) also mentions that the interviewee should also research on the hiring manager who will be conducting the interview. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Tweeter and Linkedin can be very helpful to access such information. By knowing the interviewer well, the candidate will be able to turn the interview into a conversation eventually easing the tension.
Being enthusiastic
Always be eager to learn new things. Develop a positive attitude and optimism about the job or the interview. This plays a crucial role in enabling one to overcome challenges and convert them into opportunities.
Establishing a good network
Laying down a good networking can be very vital especially for candidate who is seeking for a promotional opportunity. From this perspective, one will always be aware when such opportunities arises and what is required from them. For instance, by having the access of information earlier a candidate may consider enrolling for a course that will enhance their skills prior to the time of promotion.
Establishing a mentorship relationship with someone senior.
Having a mentor in workplace does not only provides one with motivation and advices but also helps one in developing a positive reputation. By creating a positive relationship with someone senior enables one to be updated about the plans of the organization. Incase of a promotion opportunity, a senior manager may helps a potential candidate to secure the chance by spreading positive news about the candidate.
